The vivid, rollicking world of Los Santos leaves a lasting impression—for better or worse—so much so that it garnered an excellent 4.5-star review from us and capped $1 billion in sales in a mere three-day period. One of the main reasons for that is the sheer volume of things to do in the game. Beyond the story and side missions themselves, you can golf, hunt, take taxi jobs, and even explore the bottom of the Pacific Ocean looking for radioactive waste. Some of these things are obvious, and can conveniently be found on your game’s map. Others take a bit more exploration and resourcefulness. That’s where this article comes in.
If you are looking for general hints and suggestions on how to get started, check out our in-depth Grand Theft Auto V guide. For secrets within the game and tips that aren’t apparent and you could miss altogether without even knowing it, check out the offerings below, and add your own in the comments. We’ll add to this list over the coming weeks, so check back often.
Below are some of the currently known cheat codes and tips available for both console versions of Grand Theft Auto V. The codes can be manually entered using the D-Pad at any point in the game, but keep in mind doing so will disable achievements and trophies for the duration of your gaming session. When you save and reload, cheats will be reset, so you’ll need to enter them again if you want to continue to use them.

Earning quick money
The best way to earn money in Grand Theft Auto V is debatable, and there are several ways. You could try your luck with the either of the game’s expansive stock markets, rob an armored vehicle, or if you’re desperate, hold up a convenience store for petty cash. If you need a little extra cash between mission-based heists, there are ways to do a bit of gold farming.
$12,000: Begin by traveling to the northwest coast of Los Santos, specifically the peninsula jetting north off the southern coast of Paleto Bay, and head north to the position highlighted on the map below. Once there, dive beneath the water and locate the flashing hidden package resting near the tail end of the sunken airplane. After collecting the package, swap to another character for a moment and then immediately back. The package will respawn indefinitely. Switching between characters will also replenish your oxygen supply and doing this enough will help to build lung capacity. If you find yourself needing air too quickly though, you may want to wait until you can purchase Sonar Collections in the northwest, which gives you the Zodiak sub and automatically equips you with a scuba tank.
Repeat the process as many times as you see fit, and consider positioning the other character near the second hidden package noted below.
$25,000: Begin by traveling to the west coast of Los Santos, specifically the region abutting Pacific Bluffs, and head west to the position highlighted on the map below. Once there, dive beneath the water and locate the flashing hidden package resting near the sunken ship. As with the previous package, switch to another character and then return to see the package respawn.
$23,000: This is more of a side mission than a secret, but once you purchase Sonar Collectibles and receive the Zodiak, you can then begin to collect nuclear waste on the ocean floor, at $23,000 a pop. These are easy to find, yet time consuming. With 30 in total to find though, a little determination can earn you $690,000 without breaking a sweat.
Play the stock market
Once Franklin unlocks the Lester missions, make sure you have some cash to spend before you start one. In all but one of these missions you are tasked with assassinating a target, which in turn manipulates a specific stock price that you can invest in (one mission tanks a stock, but Lester warns you). Before you start, save and then start the mission to find out what stock to invest in. Reload, then switch between the three characters and have them each invest as much as possible in that stock before jumping back to Franklin to begin the mission. Once you’re done, give it a day or two (in-game time), then sell the stock for a huge profit before it drops back to where it was.
Repairing vehicles and health
If you’ve ever played a Grand Theft Auto title, you know busting up your whip – and yourself – is an unavoidable inconvenience waiting to happen around the next corner. If you need health or want to repair your car, just switch to another character and back to find yourself healed and your car repaired.
If you have little money saved up, purchase a weapon and its accompanying upgrades during one of the game’s many missions. Afterward, kill your character, subsequently failing the active mission, and return to any Ammu-Nation to find all weapon upgrades will already be marked as purchased and your money back.
During your travels through Los Santos and beyond, you may hear about a religious organization known as Epsilon that was first mentioned in GTAIV. The group is a thinly veiled parody of Scientology, and it offers eight missions for Michael alone. To start the Epsilon missions, go to the in-game Internet and search for Epsilon or hit the random button until it appears. Take the personality test and wait for a Strangers and Freaks mission to appear. Once you complete it, you will then need to go back to the site and donate $500, which leads to another request for a donation, this time $5,000. That will lead into another mission and another. Continue down the path to enlightenment to earn an achievement/trophy.
