Made of super lightweight carbon fibre, accelerating to 100 kilometers an hour in 2.7 seconds & running on batteries, Singapore’s first supercar is unique.
Singapore’s new supercar: The Dendrobium
Based on AFP-Relaxnews
Singapore’s first supercar made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in Geneva, Switzerland this week.
That the supercar is also an electric supercar, powered by Formula E lithium batteries, makes it even more unique.
The Dendrobium goes from 0 kilometers per hour (kmh) to 100 kmh in a mere 2.7 seconds, reaching a top speed of 320 kmh.
With a chassis made from lightweight carbon fibre the car weighs a mere 1,750 kilogrammes.
A honeycomb pattern is the design theme found throughout the car. Even the dashboard buttons are honeycombs.
To be a supercar of the same caliber as a Ferrari or Lamborghini how the doors open, providing entry and exit into the car, is all important.
The visually striking doors and roof of the supercar were inspired by the petals of the blooming flower that gives the car its name: the Dendrobium orchid that is native to Singapore.
The doors of the supercar open upwards and backwards simultaneously.
The car’s low-slung roof also lifts upwards and backwards.
The supercar was designed by a local Singaporean company named Vanda Electrics together with the design firm Williams Advanced Engineering.
The Dendrobium is a so-called concept car.
This means it does not have the finalised features of a production model.
If it does go to production, the supercar will be made in the tens rather than thousands.
Production slated to begin in 2020.
