Francesca Schaeffer, a Macungie native and Emmaus High School graduate, has been working a six-month internship in Pittsburgh since the summer.But last Friday, Schaeffer, who will just have the spring semester to complete after her internship before she graduates from Penn State, took a break from her engineering co-op at Nalco Water to join her Nittany Lions teammates for a trip to the White House.President Donald Trump welcomed 18 NCAA championship teams to the White House, including Penn State’s women’s rugby team and the university’s wrestling team. South Carolina’s women’s basketball team was also invited but declined the invitation.The Penn State women’s rugby team captured its 12th national title, and sixth straight, with a 28-25 win over Lindenwood in May. Despite this being the 12th national championship, Schaeffer said it was the program’s first visit to the White House.“Being able to represent all the women that played before and helped win championships and build the program before us was an amazing opportunity,” Schaeffer said. “We have a very strong alumni base who we owe a lot of our current success to.
