The Philippine Azkals find themselves in tough company when the ASEAN Football Federation Suzuki Cup rolls in later this year. The Azkals, who made history in March by clinching a spot in the AFC Asian Cup for the first time, are in Group B of the Suzuki Cup, alongside defending champion Thailand, 2016 runner-up Indonesia, former champion Singapore, and the qualification round winner between Brunei and Timor-Leste. The Azkals will try to bounce back from a disappointing 2016 campaign, in which they placed third in their group, finishing winless, managing only 2 points, and missing the knockout stages. Coincidentally, the Azkals also battled against Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia in the 2016 Suzuki Cup group stage. Fighting it out in Group A are Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar and Vietnam. The 2018 Suzuki Cup will run from November 8 to December 15. The tournament will be a good test for the Azkals as they get ready for the 2019 AFC Asian Cup, which kicks off on January 5.
