MANILA – A magnitude 4.8 earthquake struck Ilocos Norte province Wednesday dawn, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said. The tremor hit at 4:02 a.m., some 2 kilometers northeast of Carasi town. Phivolcs said it was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 19 kilometers. Intensity 2, which may cause hanging objects to slightly swing, was felt in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte. Instrumental intensity 1 was also recorded in Sinait, Ilocos Sur. The tremor is not expected to either spawn aftershocks or cause damage, Phivolcs said.
