MANILA – A total of 159 Filipino migrant workers from the Middle East were repatriated by the Philippine government this week, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Saturday. The DFA said 128 Filipino workers who availed of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) amnesty program arrived in Manila on Friday. The UAE earlier announced the extension of its amnesty program until Dec. 1 this year. The program started in August for all visa violators and illegal residents in the UAE. DFA welcomes extended UAE amnesty program Thirty-one other Filipinos meanwhile, mostly victims of illegal recruitment and trafficking, were flown in from Jordan last Thursday. The DFA added that it shouldered the travel expenses of the repatriated Filipinos who also received financial aid.
