Street sweeper dies in road mishap Rey Galupo (The Philippine Star) – December 8, 2018 – 12:00am MANILA, Philippines — A bus owned by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor) that was about to deliver Christmas gifts to beneficiaries hit and killed a street sweeper in Manila yesterday. Johnnyfer Basabe, 45, an employee of the Department of Public Services at the city hall, died at the scene. Investigation showed that the Pagcor bus driven by Rico Balugo, 40, was traversing the corner of United Nations Avenue and San Marcelino street when it struck Basabe at around 6:20 a.m. According to Pagcor, Balugo was on his way to Hagdang Bato in Mandaluyong City to deliver gifts to senior citizens and solo parents when the accident happened. Balugo was brought to the Manila Police District Traffic Enforcement Unit after the accident. Charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide will be filed against him, police said. “We condole with the family of the victim,” Pagcor said in a statement. Pagcor officials assured Basabe’s wife and children of financial assistance.
