SAN RAFAEL, CA — Two people were arrested Wednesday in connection with the theft of jewelry and clothing from a San Rafael home they were house-sitting while the owners were out of the country on business, police said.The homeowners hired a woman as a house and dog sitter between mid-October and mid-November. There was a family emergency that required the sitter to be out of the area for a few days, so she arranged for Violet Bloomfield, 38, and Casey Diehl, 46, both of San Rafael, to take her place, Lt. Dan Fink said.When the homeowners returned on Nov. 24, they found that jewelry, clothing and other property worth more than $22,000 was missing. A detective identified Bloomfield and Diehl as the suspects, Fink said.Police got a warrant to search the suspects’ home in the 300 block of Acadia Lane in San Rafael on Wednesday. Bloomfield complied with the search warrant but Diehl apparently refused to leave the house and San Rafael and Novato police found him hiding in a bedroom, according to Fink.Bloomfield was arrested on suspicion of identity theft and grand theft, and Diehl was arrested for allegedly delaying or resisting arrest and possession of stolen property, Fink… Read full this story
