KUALA LUMPUR: Four men and a woman, who stole old cars by towing them away to sell to a scrapyard, have been arrested by the police.
Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Eshak said police were alerted after a 54-year-old van driver found two of his cars which he parked along Jalan Bandar Baru Ampang were missing at around 8am on June 18.
"The next day, a team from Ampang Jaya CID arrested a 42-year-old man at around 1pm.
"His arrest led us to a scrapyard in Kuala Lumpur where we seized a lorry and the two cars," he said in a statement yesterday.
He said police then arrested three more men and a woman aged between 20 and 40 following raids at Jinjang, Wangsa Maju and Ampang.
"Checks revealed two of the male suspects have multiple records for drug offences while the woman also had a prior record for drug offence.
"The suspects would go around looking for old cars which they would tow in order to sell to the scrapyard," he said.
