Currently, there is no provision in the Railways administration for providing help to such victims. Therefore, Shiv Sena leader Neelam Gorhe has said that that there is a need to make changes in the policy and she will be taking up the issue with the Railway Minister Piyush Goyal to provide relief to such passengers. CHENNAI: A day after the cabinet promulgated an ordinance for indirect elections to the posts of mayors of corporations and chairpersons of municipalities and town panchayats, the ruling AIADMK in Tamil Nadu on Thursday called for fresh applications from the partymen for the post of ward councillors. As per the ordinance, the elected ward councillors will elect the mayors and chairpersons of the urban local bodies from among themselves in their first meeting. In a statement, party coordinator O Panneerselvam and joint coordinator Edappadi K Palaniswami said the aspirants could file applications on November 22, between 10am and 5pm. A team which has already been set up by the party headquarters will issues applications and collect the filled-in applications on the same day. In view of the State government’s decision to conduct indirect elections for Mayor and Chairperson posts in the urban local bodies, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) has invited its party personnel (who have earlier submitted applications for the top posts and equivalent posts in rural local bodies) to apply afresh for Ward Member (Councillor) posts in these bodies.Aspirants can reach out to party functionaries designated earlier, to receive applications on November 22 ,and submit their applications with the required fee, a party release stated.Those who had applied earlier for Mayor, Chairman and other posts in urban and rural local bodies, could get their application fee reimbursed between November 25 and 29 after the party’s General Council meeting.The payments made would be returned in person at the party head office in Chennai on producing the original receipt, the statement said. … [Read more...] about Indirect polls to key posts: AIADMK invites fresh applications
Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar on Thursday alleged that Opposition parties in Tamil Nadu were conspiring to stop the proposed local body elections.
