Research data shows that Apple's HomePod isn't doing as well as other smart speakers in the US market. Why is this so? According to research conducted by the Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP), fewer U.S. homes own an Apple HomePod compared to homes that own Amazon's Echo or Google's Home speakers. In the report, titled "HomePod Grabs A Little Share," the CIRP estimates that about 70 percent of U.S. homes own an Amazon Echo, about 24 percent of homes have Google Home speakers, and a mere 5 percent of U.S. homes have an Apple HomePod. Furthermore, Amazon Echo and Google Home owners are also more likely to have more than one unit compared to those who own an Apple HomePod. The research states that 34% of Amazon Echo owners have more than one unit (some of them own as much as four units), while 31% of Google Home owners report having more than one unit (some of them own as much as three units). The research firm noted that while the HomePod "now has a small but meaningful … [Read more...] about Why Is Apple HomePod Losing Ground In US Market?
WhatsApp is undoubtedly the widely used cross-platform internet-based messaging application in the world with over a billion active users. To ensure these users have enough reasons to stay on the platform, the Facebook-owned app constantly tests new features and rolls them out in an orderly fashion. Another beta feature has been spotted in the wild, something millions of users are going to love when rolled out. According to WABetaInfo, which regularly tracks updates and new features to the popular app, WhatsApp is reportedly working on a boomerang feature that will make users' chats and statuses more fun to watch. For those unaware, the boomerang-style looping short clips are quite popular in Instagram, and WhatsApp seems to be borrowing it to share the success. The new feature, aptly named Boomerang, is not available publicly since the feature has been in the works for the last few weeks. Once WhatsApp has fine-tuned and eliminated all bugs with the feature, it will be released to all … [Read more...] about WhatsApp is getting this uber-cool feature from Instagram soon
A new report claims that Apple is working on a folding iPhone, but will release it more than a year from now. Given that other smartphone companies are expected to release foldable devices within a few months' time, is the device still worth waiting for? According to a report from CNBC, banking company UBS believes that Apple is steadily working on technology that can be used for foldable devices. It also believes that while the Cupertino tech giant can release a foldable device as early as next year, it "is more likely" to release such a product in 2021 instead. Some might think that 2021 is too late a release window. Considering that other smartphone companies like Samsung, Huawei and Motorola are preparing to release their offerings -- the Galaxy Fold, the Mate X, and Razr, respectively -- this year, it seems natural for people to think Apple could be too late for the party. UBS itself expects that Samsung will take the lead when it comes to bringing foldable devices to the market. … [Read more...] about Apple iPhone X Fold: Is it worth waiting for?

The infamous scene from The Social Network where Sean Parker (in character) utters the words, "Drop the 'The.' Just 'Facebook.' It's cleaner," was a fictional gift to mankind (at least it felt that way at the time). But that doesn't seem to be holding true in the real world - at least for the apps Facebook owns. Instagram and WhatsApp are soon going to be renamed by adding Facebook's label to both apps. The change is happening soon and the company spokesperson confirmed the same. Brace yourselves for "Instagram from Facebook" and "WhatsApp from Facebook" instead of the cleaner Instagram and WhatsApp monikers. "We want to be clearer about the products and services that are part of Facebook," a company spokesperson told The Information. Facebook's re-branding effort comes as a result of antitrust regulators scrutinising the company's holding, sources familiar with the matter told the publication. Thankfully enough, the names of both Facebook-owned apps will remain the same on your … [Read more...] about Facebook is renaming WhatsApp, Instagram to show who the boss is
