The New York Knicks' parent company said Monday that a report of chairman James Dolan taking offers to sell the team is "100 percent false." "There has been nothing. No discussions. No plans to have discussions -- nothing," the Madison Square Garden Company said in a statement. READ: Team LeBron rallies, wins All-Star game 178-164 The topic, which also came up late last year, arose again on Sunday in a podcast from The Ringer. Host Bill Simmons said, "Multiple people told me this, who know things: James Dolan is courting offers for the Knicks. It's happening. It's on. It's go time. He's courting offers for the Knicks." Simmons went on to say that Dolan, executive chairman and CEO of Madison Square Garden Company, "really cares about the buildings and the in-game/in-concert experience. And he wants to put even more money into that." WASHINGTON - The United States promised Wednesday to stay focused on permanently destroying the Islamic State group but asked concerned allies to contribute more, as President Donald Trump boasted that the extremists will soon have lost all their territory in Syria. Trump addressed officials from more than 70 countries who came to Washington to discuss ways ahead in the battle Islamic State, also known as ISIS, after Trump stunned many of them in December by declaring victory and ordering all 2,000 troops out of Syria. Speaking at the State Department, Trump said that US-led troops and their Kurdish allies had "liberated virtually all of the territory" from the jihadists who once controlled a vast stretch of Syria and Iraq in a self-styled caliphate. "It should be formally announced sometime next week that we will have 100 percent of the caliphate," Trump said. "Remnants -- that's all they have, remnants -- but remnants can be very dangerous," Trump said. "Rest assured, we'll do what … [Read more...] about News US promises to keep IS fight after ‘100 percent’ defeat
By Colin Perkel The Canadian Press Fri., Jan. 25, 2019 The federal government knowingly short-changed hundreds of thousands of disabled veterans and RCMP members about $165 million in benefits, a proposed class action filed in Federal Court on Friday asserts. The unproven claim, which seeks $600 million in damages, accuses the government of negligence and breach of contract among other things. As a result, as many as 270,000 veterans and others receiving a disability pension or … [Read more...] about Feds sued for short-changing disabled veterans and alleged cover-up
By Kate Feldman New York Daily News Tues., July 17, 2018 Sacha Baron Cohen lied about his identity, but he never pretended to be a veteran, Showtime insisted Monday amid controversy. The Borat funnyman debuted his new show, Who Is America?, on Showtime Sunday night, but much of the mockumentary’s advertising was done the week prior by a string of right-wing politicians and celebrities who had been duped by Cohen. Among the loudest complainers were Congressmen Dana Rohrabacher and Joe Wilson, radio host Joe Walsh, former Sen. Majority Leader Trent Lott and gun rights advocate Philip Van Cleave, who all happily endorsed a program to arm kindergarteners in an attempt to stop school shootings. But it was former vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s allegations that Cohen had disguised himself as “a disabled U.S. Veteran, fake wheelchair and all” to trick her into an interview, that led to a Los Angeles billboard Monday morning that accused … [Read more...] about Showtime says Sacha Baron Cohen didn’t ‘present himself as a disabled veteran’ on Who Is America?
