I struggled to hold back my tears when MS Dhoni got out in World Cup semis: Yuzvendra Chahal

· September 28, 2019 ·

NEW DELHI: The World Cup semifinal loss to New Zealand in July still fresh in his mind, leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal said he struggled to hold back his tears when Mahendra Singh Dhoni got out in that match at Old Trafford. Chasing 240, Chahal walked into bat after Dhoni fell in the 49th over against New Zealand in the rain-affected semi-final which India lost by 18 runs. Dhoni stitched a 116-run stand with Ravindra Jadeja to get India close after they were tottering at 92 for 6 at one stage. But Dhoni's dismissal, run out on 50, crushed India's hopes of reaching the final. "It was my first World Cup and when Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni) got out and I was going in (to bat), I was trying to hold back my tears. It was so depressing," Chahal said at an event. "We played so well for nine games but suddenly we were going out of the tournament. Rain wasn't in our hands and so it won't be right to say anything (about the interruption). It was the first time that we really wanted to go back to … [Read more...] about I struggled to hold back my tears when MS Dhoni got out in World Cup semis: Yuzvendra Chahal

Socceroos beat Thailand 2-1 but Australia now waits on Japan and Saudi Arabia for World Cup fate

(AAP: Julian Smith) Related Story: Socceroos edge Thailand on frustrating night, as it happened Map: Melbourne 3000 The Socceroos have huffed and puffed their way to a 2-1 win over Thailand, but must now wait on Japan getting at least a draw against Saudi Arabia on Wednesday morning (AEST) to qualify for the World Cup.Pokklaw Anan's goal in the 81st minute looked to have sunk the Socceroos' hopes after Australia had tried repeatedly to break down a stubborn Thai defence, having looked to have finally done it when Tomi Juric opened the scoring on the 69th minute. With spirits down, Leckie's caressed finish through a sea of legs got Australia the win, but not the goal-difference changer it would have hoped for, with the Socceroos now hoping Japan can get at least a draw in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday morning (AEST).Having … [Read more...] about Socceroos beat Thailand 2-1 but Australia now waits on Japan and Saudi Arabia for World Cup fate

ICC World Cup 2019: Ravindra Jadeja making it count as supersub

· July 5, 2019 ·

LEEDS: Ravindra Jadeja featured in every game India played in the 2015 World Cup - a total of eight. At the 2019 edition, he remains the only one from the original squad of 15 yet to figure in a single match. WORLD CUP SCHEDULE | POINTS TABLE Times have changed and so have the priorities and the requirements of the team. Despite bringing much to the table with his all-round abilities, Jadeja doesn't seem to fit into the team equation even as the tournament reaches its closure. Jadeja's stunning catch to dismiss Jason Roy at Edgbaston was a reminder of his fielding brilliance. He has contributed to the team's cause whenever he has been called upon as a substitute fielder in this World Cup. Whether in the ring or outside it, he is a delight to watch and a constant threat to the batsmen. Jadeja would have liked to be in that list captains exchange before every game. But his wish seems destined to remain unfulfilled. Chastened by the experience against England, India dropped a … [Read more...] about ICC World Cup 2019: Ravindra Jadeja making it count as supersub
