Drug war: 2 dead, 40 arrested MANILA, Philippines — Two alleged drug pushers were killed in an alleged shootout and at least 40 others were arrested in Metro Manila over the past two days as the government continued its war against the illegal drug trade. The two suspects – a man known only as Boboy and his unidentified companion – died at the scene in Tondo, Manila yesterday. Senior Superintendent Eleazar Matta, who heads the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-National Capital Region (CIDG-NCR) office, said two .38 caliber revolvers, a .45 caliber pistol, several sachets of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu and a motorcycle without a license plate were recovered from the two men. Pair of pants laying on his bed. By Claire Floody Staff Reporter Wed., May 23, 2018 Friends and family of the 20-year-old cyclist killed in a hit and run early Tuesday morning in Whitchurch-Stouffville are remembering him for his kind and generous nature. Police are still looking for the driver who hit Daunte Thompson-Bruce early Tuesday morning. York Region police said they responded to the call around 6 a.m. Tuesday near Ninth Line and Bethesda Sideroad. They said the vehicle did not remain at the scene and that the cyclist succumbed to his injuries on site. Shortly after an Aurora woman shared her story of her purse being stolen at the local grocery store April 14, another Longo’s shopper, this time in Richmond Hill, said her purse was nearly lifted in the same way at her local Longo’s earlier that afternoon. And on April 10, police in Milton sent out a release, along with photos, of purse-snatching culprits in a Longo’s at that location. In this case, witnesses appear to have scared off the suspects. Anne Marie, the Aurora shopper, was shocked to see photos released by police of the Milton suspects. Two of the men, she said, looked exactly like the ones who bumped into her and told her that fire was coming from her car last Saturday afternoon in Aurora. After howling gusts of wind sent trees and hydro poles crashing down in equal measure as city streets were scoured with rain, as many as 44,000 hydro customers lost power overnight. Toronto Hydro reports crews worked through the night and have restored power to nearly three-quarters as of 6 a.m. Monday. Meanwhile, Environment Canada is holding with a rainfall warning for the City of Toronto. The weather agency reports rain may be heavy through Monday morning, but that is expected to taper off over the course of the day. Commuters should be cautious of potentially hazardous poorly drained roads and highways. Homeowners are also encouraged to clear drainage basins for more effective water flow and to prevent potential flooding.
