Kolkata: Comparing BJP with “venomous snakes”, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday attacked the ruling party for spreading fake news on social media and making false promises. While addressing a public rally in Purulia, Mamata said, “BJP makes false promises to people before election and disappears after the polls. Do not trust them. Water, roads, jobs -- all the basic amenities are provided by the state government to the people.” Mamata also accused BJP of releasing fake videos and tampering with the truth. “They intimidate media houses and compel them to change the results of opinion polls. Amit Shah has intimidated the media houses,” she claimed. Adhikari challenged Mamata Banerjee to fight from a single seat. “TMC supremo is suffering from political depression. Mamata Banerjee said she will be fighting from Nandigram and her own constituency Bhawanipore in Kolkata. Facebook post triggers violence in West Bengal
A Facebook post by a local youth on Monday, allegedly hurting minority sentiments, led to a mob attack on a police station in the Ilambazar area of West Bengal’s Birbhum district.
