To rescue a pregnant woman facing domestic abuse at her husband's place in Vapi, Gujarat, during lockdown, a few NGOs came together and brought her back to her parents in Mumbai. The police, who were earlier reluctant to lodge a complaint when the survivor approached them, arranged for her travel to Mumbai because of the NGOs' intervention. Saira (name changed), 37, married Khan, 53, a year-and-a-half ago and moved to Vapi where he works in a factory. After marriage she realised that the husband had three wives from previous marriages but Saira was in no position to protest. "I have 9-month-old twins and now I am six months pregnant.
