With the Wagholi gram panchayat’s enforced ‘janata curfew’ set to be launched from today onwards till September 17, the ‘janata’ or public of the area is up in arms against the move, terming it as a ‘gag order’ and predicting ‘conflict’ if the decision is not revoked. Numerous denizens of the area claimed the strictures of the notice issued by the local body on Thursday — reportedly to break the chain of the spread of COVID-19 amid rising cases in the locality — are unnecessary. This includes telling every resident who needs to step out for work to make arrangements to stay out, and ordering even vegetable vendors to close for the six-day period, besides other shops. It has been 10 days since filmmaker and journalist Indrajit Lankesh made explosive revelations that drug abuse was rampant in Sandalwood. That set off a chain reaction and nothing has dominated the headlines in Karnataka but the skeletons that have come tumbling out of the closet. Lankesh himself has deposed twice before the Central Crime Branch (CCB) police and handed over a list of names. Following this, many arrests have been made, notable among them being Ragini Dwivedi. In November 2012, five boys died of carbon monoxide poisoning in a trash bin in Bijie, Guizhou.
