Maintaining that the new agricultural laws are an “internal matter” of India, new U.K. High Commissioner to India Alexander Ellis on Friday said the debate in the British House of Commons set for Monday was part of issues linked to India that were quite “regularly debated” there. “Things that happen in India have ripples in the U.K., partly because you do have such a big community in the U.K. So these things get debated,” Mr. Ellis told journalists, explaining that the farm laws and the protests were being discussed as a result of a petition that crossed 1,00,000 signatures, even though the U.K. government’s position was that the issue was an internal one for the Modi government to resolve in India. “As the Indian diaspora grows and becomes more successful in many countries in the world, you’re going to see more of this …. as India grows, becomes more international and ever more significant in the world, there will be more debate about the government’s views,” Mr. Ellis said, but ... » Learn More about Farm laws an internal matter of India: U.K. High Commissioner to India

OPEC ignores India’s call; Saudi asks New Delhi to use cheap oil it bought last year
International oil prices rose after OPEC and its allies ignored India's plea to ease production control, with Saudi Arabia asking New Delhi to instead use oil it bought at rock bottom rates last year. Brent crude, the most widely used benchmark, on Friday rose nearly 1 % to $ 67.44 a barrel after the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and its allies, a group known as OPEC+, agreed not to increase supplies in April awaiting more substantial recovery in demand. India's Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had in the run-up to Thursday's OPEC meeting urged the producers' group to ease production curbs to fulfil their promise of stable oil prices. He felt rising international oil prices were hurting economic recovery and demand. Responding to a question on India's pleas, Saudi energy minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman at a press conference after the OPEC+ decision on Thursday said New Delhi should take some of the crude out of storage that they had purchased ... » Learn More about OPEC ignores India’s call; Saudi asks New Delhi to use cheap oil it bought last year

Not only Punjab, entire country is protesting: Harsimrat Badal on farmers’ protest
New Dehlhi: As India gets ready to for the ‘Chakka Jam’ called by the farmers on Saturday (February 6), Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal salmmed the Centre and said it is not only Punjab that is protesting against the farm laws but the entire country, she accused the central government of overlooking the other protests. The former cabinet minister voiced her concern and stated that the central government has misunderstood that only Punjab’s farmers are protesting against the new laws and asserted that it is the entire country that stands with the farmers. "The Government of India has a misunderstanding that only Punjab is agitating. The entire country is protesting, farmers from all states are sitting at protest sites. If they still want to turn a blind eye claiming only Punjab is protesting, then one can't do anything," Badal was quoted as saying by ANI. Earlier in September 2020, Harsimrat Kaur Badal had resigned from her post as the Union minister as ... » Learn More about Not only Punjab, entire country is protesting: Harsimrat Badal on farmers’ protest
