Indian equity indices, Sensex and Nifty ended with strong gains on Monday which was led by broad-based buying across sectors. Broader markets, Nifty Smallcap100 and Nifty Midcap100 supported the rally and all the sector indices ended in green. The Sensex gained 749.85 points, or 1.53 percent to 49,849.84, while the Nifty ended at 14,761.55, up 232.40 points, or 1.60 percent. Broader indices closed higher, with the Smallcap index outperforming the benchmarks, ending 2 percent higher. All sectors also ended in the green for the day led by Nifty Auto, which rose 2.4 percent. Nifty Energy and Nifty Metal were also up 2 percent for the day. The Greater Chennai Corporation has cleared political graffiti, posters and hoardings from buildings at more than 8,000 locations, following the announcement of Assembly elections. Corporation Commissioner G. Prakash had ordered election officials in all 16 Assembly constituencies in the city to remove wall graffiti, posters, papers, cutouts, hoardings, banners and flags on government property within 24 hours from the announcement of elections. On Sunday, the largest number of posters were removed from Thyagaraya Nagar Assembly constituency where election officials cleared 697 locations. Perambur Assembly constituency reported fewer posters, with just 228 locations cleared on Sunday. But Perambur reported the highest number of flagpoles at 84 locations which were cleared on Sunday. Lack of sleep among children and teenagers in China has worsened in the past decade, with more than 80 percent getting insufficient sleep on school days, a new report has found. Chinese youngsters snooze 7.8 hours a night on average on school days, down 0.3 hours from 2009, according to the report released on Monday by the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Institute of Psychology. Researchers surveyed more than 15,800 students from Henan, Hebei and Guangdong provinces from April to July, asking what time they go to bed and wake up on days they take offline classes on campus. Only 46.4 percent of them sleep for at least 8 hours, compared with 47.4 percent in 2009. Lakhs of people missed second COVID-19 vaccine dose, Health Ministry advises caution
New Delhi: In a major cause for concern, lakhs of people who were administered COVID-19 vaccine in the first phase have missed the second dose. From January 16 to February 1, 33 lakh 50 thousand 265 people across the country which included health care and frontline workers took the first shot of the vaccine. But out of these only 24 lakh 19 thousand 557 people showed up to get the second dose of the vaccine. This leaves out 9 lakh 30 thousand 708 people who either did not get the second dose in time or did not get it at all. The union health ministry has expressed concern in the matter. Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said that the people who missed the dose cannot be forced to take it and can only be made aware of it.
