It’s Naïve to Take Kim Jong-un’s ‘Friendship’ Talk at Face Value

October 12, 2020 13:36 North Korea unveiled a new mobile intercontinental ballistic missile at a military parade on Saturday marking the 75th anniversary of the Workers Party. The new ICBM is believed to be capable of carrying a warhead that is twice as large as previous missiles and could be capable of carrying two to three nuclear warheads that can simultaneously strike multiple cities in the U.S. North Korea is faced with extreme economic hardship after years of international sanctions exacerbated by the border lockdown with China, coronavirus and recent flooding. North Korean leader Kim Jong-un fought back tears as he repeatedly thanked his people in his speech at the parade and even told them he is "ashamed," suggesting that the economic situation there is extremely bad. There is one simple way North Korea can resolve its economic woes -- scrap its nuclear weapons. U.S. President Donald Trump told Kim several times that his country faces a "bright future" if it gives up ... » Learn More about It’s Naïve to Take Kim Jong-un’s ‘Friendship’ Talk at Face Value

‘What makes a good surface?’: Ashwin hits back at criticism of Motera pitch

A day after his cryptic tweets led to various theories, not only did R. Ashwin confirm that he was referring to the furore over the pitches in the last two Tests but the India off-spinner also lashed out at the critics who have been blaming England’s losses on the surfaces rather than crediting India’s all-round performances. Ashwin addressed the media on Saturday through a virtual interaction. Asked whether the strip at the Narendra Modi stadium, which saw the third Test lasting less than two days, was a good pitch, Ashwin shot back: “I have a question back. What is a good cricket surface?” “The bowler wants to win the game. The batsman needs to bat well to get runs. No question about it. What makes a good surface? Who defines this? Seam on the first day and then bat well and then spin on the last two days? Come on!” Ashwin added. “Who makes all these rules, we need to get over it and not talk about whatever picture you want to paint. If you’re asking if it is a good Test ... » Learn More about ‘What makes a good surface?’: Ashwin hits back at criticism of Motera pitch

U.S. imposes sanctions, visa bans on Saudis for journalist Khashoggi’s killing

The Biden administration announced sanctions and visa bans on Friday targeting Saudi Arabian citizens over the 2018 killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi , but stopped short of imposing sanctions on Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman himself. U.S. President Joe Biden's actions in the first weeks of his administration appear aimed at fulfilling campaign promises to realign Saudi ties after critics accused his predecessor, Donald Trump, of giving the Arab ally and major oil producer a pass on gross human rights violations. A senior Biden administration official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the approach aims to create a new launching-off point for ties with the kingdom without breaking a core relationship in the Middle East. Relations have been severely strained for years by the war in Yemen and the killing inside a Saudi consulate of Khashoggi, a U.S. resident who wrote columns for the Washington Post critical of the crown prince's policies. Importantly, the decisions ... » Learn More about U.S. imposes sanctions, visa bans on Saudis for journalist Khashoggi’s killing
