A delegation led by theatre director and social activist Prasanna met Pratap Chandra Sarangi, Union Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, in New Delhi on Friday over demands of restructuring and refinancing the handmade sector, also making it tax-free.The delegation included activist Medha Patkar among others and demanded a separate ministry for “sacred economy”. Gram Seva Sangha, spearheading the cause, defines “sacred economy” as a system of production that utilises a minimum of 60% human labour and 60% local raw material. “The meeting was positive as the Minister supported our demand. Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir government has started an outreach program urging farmers to replace traditional maize crop with sweet corn, which is more profiting and would address fodder deficit in Valley. Farmers with the assistance and advice of J&K’s agricultural department are growing sweet corn on 500 hectares while as the maize is grown on around 80,000 hectares across Kashmir. Kashmir’s Agriculture department has also approached University of Agriculture Sciences and Technology in Srinagar, asking them to submit a report on types of sweet corn varieties that could be grown in Kashmir. For now, the department imports sweet corn seed variety from Holland. The Agriculture University has developed an indigenous sweet corn variety known as Shalimar sweet corn and another hybrid variety known as Sugar-75. “We have to look ahead of times and try to get our farmer out of misery and poverty. Prosecution opposes anticipatory bail pleas of Manjula Pooja Shroff and others claiming investigators are yet to lay hands on physical copy of the fake NoC uploaded by accused to CBSE at the time of seeking affiliation; absence of the original could hamper probe against school In a curious twist to the DPS East controversy, investigators have been unable to lay their hands on the physical copy of purportedly fake NoC certificate uploaded by school officials to the CBSE, at the time of seeking its affiliation in 2010. As of now, the prosecution has in its possession only the printout of the fake NoC allegedly submitted by DPS East founder Manjula Pooja Shroff and two others. The entire case against the school authorities hinges on the NoC, which the prosecution has claimed was concocted with the purpose of securing CBSE affiliation.
