SC likely to conclude hearing in Ayodhya case today, a day ahead of October 17 deadline
NEW DELHI: A five-judge Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court is likely to conclude the hearings in the politically sensitive Ram Janmbhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute case on Wednesday, the 40th day of hearings. Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi had indicated this on Tuesday. The five-judge Constitution Bench headed by the CJI had earlier set the deadline to finish arguments on October 18. The bench later rescheduled it for October 17. During Tuesday's hearing, the CJI said that on Wednesday, 45 minutes will be given to advocate CS Vaidyanathan to argue for Hindu parties and 1 hour will be given to Muslim parties on rejoinder. The CJI also said that 4 slots of 45 min each will be given to all other Hindu parties to complete their arguments. Giving the time frame to the concerned parties, the SC said that the duration of hearing would be extended till 5 pm on Wednesday to allow both the Hindu and Muslim parties to submit their final arguments. Law Student Who Had Accused Chinmayanand of Rape Released on Bail in Extortion Case
Shahjahanpur(UP): The 23-year-old law student, arrested for allegedly trying to extort Rs 5 crore from the BJP leader Swami Chinmayanand, whom she had accused of sexually exploiting her, was released from the jail here on Wednesday. The law student was released a week after securing bail from the Allahabad High Court in the extortion case lodged against her and her three male friends. "The girl has been handed over to her father after a release order from Chief Judicial Magistrate Omveer reached the jail. She was granted bail by the Allahabad High Court on December 4," Jailor Rajesh Kumar Rai told PTI. The 23-year-old woman and her three friends were booked on Chinmayanand's complaint that they had demanded Rs 5 crore from him. SHAHJAHANPUR: The 23-year-old law student, who levelled sexual harassment charges against former Union minister Chinmayanand, was released on bail from Shahjahanpur district jail on Wednesday evening. She was lodged in jail since September 25 after the Special Investigation Team (SIT) found her alleged involvement in an extortion case registered by Chinmayanand's lawyer Om Singh. The bail was granted by Allahabad high court on December 4. The bail applications were earlier denied by lower courts in Shahjahanpur. The law student was charged under IPC sections 385 (extortion), 506 (criminal intimidation), 201 (disappearance of evidences) and 35 (criminal act done with a criminal knowledge or intention) and section 67 of the Information Technology Act along with five other persons, including two BJP leaders.
