Google celebrates female pioneers in Doodle for International Women’s Day 2021
Today’s Google Doodle highlights female pioneers throughout history, in conjunction with this year’s International Women’s Day. “The video Doodle pays homage to these (s)heroes by depicting the hands that have opened the doors for generations of women. While some firsts achieve something spectacularly new, others are receiving a recognition or right that is long overdue,” the search giant said. The animated doodle was made by French animator Helene Leroux, who developed it around the theme “Women Firsts”. This also reflected the most popular Google searches in the past year about women’s firsts, like the first female astronaut, the first woman to climb Mount Everest, and more. “I wanted to find a way to represent a diverse range of women’s accomplishments globally, while peaking curiosity of who the specific “firsts” are,” Leroux said, on the Doodle blog . She added that close-ups of hands highlighting women in their different fields throughout time would be a great way to ... » Learn More about Google celebrates female pioneers in Doodle for International Women’s Day 2021

Tengku Zafrul: Worst is behind us, Malaysia will emerge stronger by year-end
KUALA LUMPUR: The systematic roll-out of the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme and the country’s economic recovery plan that embeds strict adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) will be the key to drive Malaysia back on its track, making it stronger by end-2021, Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz said. He said based on the current data, the country’s gross domestic growth has slowly shown signs of recovery since the movement control order (MCO) 1.0 in March 2020. "We have many reasons to believe that the worst is behind us. I am certain that Malaysia will emerge stronger by the end of the year,” he told Bernama. Tengku Zafrul said the economic sectors that were allowed to operate based on strict SOPs covers 93 per cent of the economy during MCO 2.0 and this has resulted to an output loss of RM300 million per day compared with the RM2.4 billion per day during MCO 1.0. He also said the four economic stimulus packages totalling RM305 billion, or ... » Learn More about Tengku Zafrul: Worst is behind us, Malaysia will emerge stronger by year-end
Parliament has to choose between what’s popular and what’s right as spending needs grow: Indranee
SINGAPORE - Parliament on Monday (March 8) approved the Government's $107 billion spending plans for the coming financial year, following nine days of debate on the national Budget where hot-button issues featured prominently on the agenda. These included sustainability, industry transformation, job security and mental health. Capping the debate, Leader of the House Indranee Rajah reminded MPs that Singapore may face difficult choices ahead as its spending needs grow despite a tight fiscal situation. While the House was agreed on Singapore's fiscal approach for this year's Budget, she said, it will likely have to debate the impending goods and services (GST) tax hike again - given what opposition MPs have said on the topic. "I wish only to leave Members with this thought: If we want to do more for our people, we will have to spend more," added Ms Indranee, who is also Second Minister for Finance and National Development. "In a tight fiscal situation, this Parliament will ... » Learn More about Parliament has to choose between what’s popular and what’s right as spending needs grow: Indranee
Mekong River Being ‘Dammed’ with Uncertainty by China and Laos
Last week, it was reported that authorities in China notified the Mekong River Commission (MRC) that Jinghong Dam in Yunnan province will reduce its rate of water discharge by half from the beginning of the month until late January. For communities living along the Mekong, unusual water fluctuations in the Mekong River are not new. This has been happening for more than a decade. Before the construction of the Lancang cascade, of which 11 dams are already online in China, there had been no extreme water fluctuations in the Mekong River. For many millions of years, the Mekong water levels rose and receded in accordance with the cycle of the seasons. We used to have dry and rainy seasons. But when the dam cascade blocked the upper Mekong, locals living on Thai-Lao border experienced a changed Mekong that has now been controlled by dams for a period of 20 years. So far, 11 dams have been built in the Upper reaches. The one closest to the Thai border is the Jinghong Dam, only 340km ... » Learn More about Mekong River Being ‘Dammed’ with Uncertainty by China and Laos
GameStop Restocks PS5, Xbox Series: What You Need To Know
Getting your hands on a PS5 or Xbox Series X remains a crapshoot even now a good long while after pre-orders first opened, but restocks are starting to come more regularly, and resale prices are at least coming down off of their astronomical December highs. I’m seeing more and more people on my timeline celebrating getting their hands on a new console, so that means that at least some of these machines are filtering out into the general public. And there’s a restock coming to GameStop today, January 21: here’s what you need to know. GameStop’s Twitter account posted that it will have availability on PS5, Xbox Series X and Switch sometime today at its website, though we don’t have an exact time. Retailers do this pretty frequently to avoid swamping websites and possibly to gain a slight edge on resellers, but that unfortunately means you need to pay extra close attention if you want to get one. One place the announcement will definitely come through is on the GameStop Twitter ... » Learn More about GameStop Restocks PS5, Xbox Series: What You Need To Know

Singapore to offer Covid-19 vaccination to drivers of vehicles delivering essential goods
SINGAPORE (Bernama): Covid-19 vaccinations will be offered later this month to selected drivers and accompanying personnel who enter Singapore from Malaysia on a regular basis to deliver essential goods, says the Singapore Ministry of Health (MOH). This is to minimise transmission risks from workers who engage in the supply of essential goods to Singapore, said the MOH in a statement on Monday (March 8). "Vaccination will provide an additional layer of protection against Covid-19, ensuring that these personnel can continue to deliver essential goods to Singapore safely," it said. The MOH said those who are eligible for vaccination would be notified via a personalised Short Message Service (SMS) from the republic's Ministry of Trade and Industry and subsequently contacted for an appointment to undergo vaccination at designated sites in Singapore. Those who are not vaccinated may continue to enter, subject to the prevailing infection control measures such as on-arrival testing ... » Learn More about Singapore to offer Covid-19 vaccination to drivers of vehicles delivering essential goods
