KUALA LUMPUR: An unemployed man claimed trial in the Sessions Court here today to a charge of uploading an offensive posting on Facebook against Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V, two years ago. Amir Izhar Hamiruddin, 33, is accused of using his Facebook account, 'Amir Izhar' to consciously initiate a false posting with intent to annoy another person at about 12.38pm on Dec 16, 2016. He was charged under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and liable to be punished under Section 233(3) of the same Act, which carries a maximum one year imprisonment or RM50,000 fine, and should the offence be repeated after conviction, an additional RM1,000 for each day or part of the day. Deputy public prosecutor Noor Jazilah Mohd Yushaa proposed bail at RM5,000 with one surety. However, Amir Izhar who was unrepresented appealed for a lower sum. KLANG: A security guard of a primary school in Sabak Bernam was charged in the sessions court here today with posting offensive remarks against the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) through his Facebook account. Shahrul Nizam Maskor, 39, pleaded not guilty to the charge read out before Judge Emelia Kaswati Mohamad Khalid. He was charged with improper use of the network facility by knowingly making and initiating the transmission of offensive communications against the police force with the intention of annoying others, through a Facebook account under the name of 'Tok Uban'. Shahrul Nizam allegedly committed the offence at Sekolah Kebangsaan Simpang 4, Bagan Nakhoda Omar, Sabak Bernam near here on March 10.
