Arecently leaked image suggests that Apple's upcoming iPhone 11 could have the USB-C instead of the usual Lightning port. Apple has long been using the Lightning port as the standard for its devices. Does this mean that it is ready to let go of Lightning for USB-C on its new iPhones?Normally, iPhone devices have the Lightning connector appear on its restore screen. However, an image from the iOS 13 beta, as seen on Raphael Mutton's Twitter, shows that the software update is going to display a USB-C connector in lieu of the Lightning connector. While the on-screen connector still looks similar to the Lightning connector, the small notches on its connector tip aren't there. Potentially, this new restore screen could be Apple's departure from its own connector technology. The potential marketability of the iPhones can be improved with the switch to USB-C ports. USB-C can charge faster since it delivers 100 watts, 20V/5A charge speed to a device compared to the Lightning's 12 watts. … [Read more...] about Apple iPhone 11 finally ditching lightning for USB-C?

Apple took aim at Facebook and Google with new privacy tools, and at Netflix with a new personalised TV app, in a wide-ranging keynote address on Monday (Jun 3) at its annual developer conference which also brought the demise of iTunes. The iPhone maker’s annual event in San Jose offered a fresh glimpse at Apple’s ambitions in healthcare, augmented reality, wearable devices and artificial intelligence, as well as its long-running objective to turn the iPad into a more viable laptop alternative.“Today we moved all of our software platforms forward,” chief executive Tim Cook concluded. Updates to Apple’s iPhone, iPad, Watch and Mac operating systems will be released to consumers later in the year. Apple also continued its recent push to command ever-higher prices for its products, with a new Mac Pro desktop and screen bundle that costs almost US$12,000 (S$16,300), including US$999 for a monitor stand. There is little doubt the company sees its … [Read more...] about Apple updates: iTunes ends, more privacy and the S$16,000 Mac
Many Apple fans have been sniffing for details about the upcoming iPhones this year and next year. Among the next-generation devices, however, many are hoping to finally get some clues as to when exactly will the tech giant release its successor to the very successful iPhone SE. Interestingly, a new report appears to have the answer. So here's what we know about the potential release of the iPhone SE 2. According to Chinese-language outlet Economic Daily News (via Digitimes), Apple's partner company Pegatron is about to land orders for a "4.7-inch revised version of the iPhone 8" soon. These units are expected to be launched around March 2020. This move seems odd since the company is known to be working on its next devices and not the 2017 iPhone model. MacRumors picked up this report and indicated that this could be the iPhone SE 2. The Apple-centric news outlet surmised that this might mean that the long-awaited handset could sport iPhone 8 internals. If true, then the iPhone SE 2 … [Read more...] about iPhone SE 2 release date: Revamped SE model arriving next year?
SAN FRANCISCO (AFP) - China-based Huawei outsold Apple's iPhones in the first quarter of this year, seizing the California company's second place spot in a tightening smartphone market dominated by Samsung, a tracker said Tuesday (April 30). A total of 310.8 million smartphones were shipped globally during the first three months of this year in a 6.6 per cent decline from the same period in 2018, according to preliminary data from the Chinese-owned International Data Corporation (IDC). It was the sixth consecutive quarter of decline for global smartphone shipments, the market tracker added. IDC saw the results as a sign that 2019 will be another down year overall for smartphone shipments, apart from strong growth by Huawei. "It is becoming increasingly clear that Huawei is laser focused on growing its stature in the world of mobile devices, with smartphones being its lead horse," said IDC mobile device programme director Ryan Reith. "The overall smartphone market continues to be … [Read more...] about Huawei jumps ahead of Apple in tough smartphone market
