New York: New York City's mayor on Thursday joined a growing chorus of politicians calling for an investigation into sexual harassment allegations made against Governor Andrew Cuomo . Lindsey Boylan , a former aide to Cuomo, accused the governor of sexually harassing her when she worked for his administration from 2015 to 2018 in a blog post published Wednesday. She says Cuomo kissed her on the mouth without consent, suggested they played strip poker during a flight and went "out of his way to touch me on my lower back, arms and legs." When Boylan first accused Cuomo of sexual harassment, without providing details, in a tweet in December, the 63-year-old Democratic governor said it was "just not true." "We need a full and independent investigation," said Mayor Bill de Blasio, a Democrat and long-time rival of the governor. "This is a very serious charge. We have got to know the truth," de Blasio told reporters. Unification of pension funds on agenda for five-year plan
After laying the groundwork for more than a decade, China has announced it will set up a unified national pension system before 2025. The decision was unveiled in a document released by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China late last year, as policymakers addressed challenges posed by a rapidly graying population. The document makes wide-ranging proposals for China's development priorities for the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period and beyond, with details set to be ironed out at the two sessions-the annual meetings of the country's top legislature and top political advisory body-which start next week. In a section of the document on creating a stronger safety net, the CPC Central Committee said China needs to achieve "national unification" of basic old-age insurance. Lu Quan, secretary-general of the China Association of Social Security, said the unification of old-age pension funds has been widely achieved at the provincial level, which is a major milestone. ... » Learn More about Unification of pension funds on agenda for five-year plan

Billboard Chief Offers Thoughts on Future of K-Pop
October 09, 2014 09:40 Janice Min, who leads Billboard and the Hollywood Reporter, the two most influential U.S. showbiz publications, has some advice for the popular music industry of her ancestral home. Min attended the MU:CON Seoul 2014, a world music market hosted by the Korea Creative Contents Agency, which ended on Wednesday. Min delivered a keynote speech on Monday on K-pop and shared candid thoughts about it at a press conference afterwards. The largely manufactured genre will need to approach the public in more authentic way to be sustainable, she said. "K-pop is the perfect 360-degree expression of entertainment right now. It has dance, singing, fashion, beauty, it's all packaged so well that it makes it incredibly appealing to anyone in the YouTube generation." But that synthetic perfection may prove its Achilles heel. "Fans are going to want to feel a sense of authenticity from these performers," she said. Major challenges for WTO’s first woman head
Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who will serve as World Trade Organization director-general from March 1,2021, to Aug 31, 2025, faces at least three major challenges. First, she needs to restore the organization's dispute settlement mechanism that has remained paralyzed for more than six months as judges' posts in its appellate body remain vacant. At least three judges are required to maintain basic operations but the appellate body has been doing with only one judge after the Donald Trump administration opposed the appointment of new judges saying the WTO needs an institutional overhaul. Dispute settlement is one of the WTO's three major functions. Restoring normal operation of its appellate body is undoubtedly a primary challenge before Okonjo-Iweala, as the Joe Biden administration could still follow its predecessor's political legacy and try to interfere in the appointment of new judges. The second challenge before Okonjo-Iweala is to carry out large-scale reform of the WTO's ... » Learn More about Major challenges for WTO’s first woman head
New government body to boost rural revitalization
China on Thursday unveiled a government body for rural revitalization, replacing an anti-poverty agency that has supercharged targeted poverty relief programs in rural regions over the past eight years. Wang Zhengpu, a veteran agricultural official, was appointed head of the new administration and a member of the Leading Party Members Group at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. The plaque of the anti-poverty office was taken down ahead of the ceremony. Created in 1986 under a different name, the office was tasked with poverty alleviation and rural development. It got a more prominent role in recent years as China stepped up efforts to eradicate absolute poverty.
