TOKYO : The new president of the Tokyo Olympic organizing committee has begun holding weekly news conferences hoping to win over a doubting Japanese public with the postponed games opening in just under five months. Seiko Hashimoto is trying to assure everyone that the Olympics will be safe and secure, a phrase she repeated a dozen times on Friday night in her inaugural news conference. Polls show about 80% of Japanese think the games should be postponed again or canceled amid the pandemic. “The situation around coronavirus doesn’t go easy on us,” Hashimoto said. “I understand there are a lot of people in Tokyo and in Japan who have concerns about the games in Tokyo this summer. I’d like to share my thoughts and alleviate some of those concerns.” She also needs to ease fears about the torch relay, which is set to begin on March 25 from the northeastern prefecture of Fukushima. The relay involves 10,000 runners and goes to every corner of Japan. The Olympics open on July 23, ... » Learn More about New Tokyo Olympic president tries to assure Japan on safety

‘To do nothing is not an option’: Indonesian foreign minister defends meeting junta
Indonesia’s top diplomat has defended the inevitability of keeping all channels of communication open in seeking solutions to the political crisis that has split Myanmar, insisting that it is an important step to ensure the “wishes of the people” are heard by the junta that seized power earlier this month. Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi met with U Wunna Maung Lwin, the Myanmar coup government’s appointed foreign minister, in a three-way meeting with Thai Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai at Don Muang Airport in Bangkok on Wednesday, as confidence in a regional solution dimmed. Speaking to the media upon her return, Retno said Indonesia intended to keep communication lines open with all parties in Myanmar, including the Myanmar armed forces and the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH), which represents ousted members of parliament. “In ... Russia, China see bigger challenges from US
UNITED NATIONS: As a new round of silent battles initiated by the United States and its allies using the excuse of human rights to attack countries, particularly China and Russia, had been waged at the 46th United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in recent days, analysts warn that as the US reengages with the UN body and touts the idea of a “democratic alliance,” they may adopt more aggressive measures to pressure China and Russia by further politicizing human rights issues. However, they noted that as China’s definition of human rights and its practices in protecting and ensuring such rights — for example, lifting 770 million Chinese people out of poverty over the past four decades — have been gradually recognized by more and more countries, it may be difficult for the US to regain leadership in the human rights domain or for the West to use the UNHRC as a political tool. Confronted with the stern situation ahead, Russian experts also suggested China and Russia strengthen ... » Learn More about Russia, China see bigger challenges from US
Mercedes-AMG CLA 35 4MATIC (2020) review
Mercedes-Benz has finally filled the gap between its super-fast and mainstream compact cars. And it works nicely. When Mercedes-Benz renewed its small car family with an unprecedented number of body styles to choose from in the last decade, it was pretty clear that the Stuttgart-based premium car maker wanted to attract everyone, so to speak. The five-door A-Class, for one, transformed itself into a proper hatch for the young. Then there’s the coupe-like CLA-Class for fashionistas, and its Shooting Brake sibling, if that’s not enough. Uncles and aunties even had the choice of the frumpy-looking B-Class MPV. The menu of engines was also decent, if not exactly widely served. You could get frugal petrol and diesel engines, with some whose wick has been tuned to be a little more aggressive for the wilder guns of buyers. And in the usual Mercedes fashion, there was fire-breathing AMG power to go for. But all along, there was a space left unfilled in the performance ranks, that ... » Learn More about Mercedes-AMG CLA 35 4MATIC (2020) review

China’s top shuttlers’ first outing could be the Malaysian Open
PETALING JAYA: Chinese badminton stars are set to make their long-awaited return to the international arena in May with Malaysia being the possible first destination. The likes of reigning Olympics champion Chen Long and Shi Yuqi (men’s singles), Chen Yufei (women’s singles), Zheng Siwei-Huang Yaqiong (mixed doubles) last competed at the All-England in March last year. They did not travel to Bangkok for the three back-to-back World Tour legs in January after being barred from leaving the country by their government. For the ongoing season-opening Swiss Open and All-England this month, the China Badminton Association (CBA) did not submit any entries. But the fans can expect to catch their favourite players not too long from now. CBA president Zhang Jun revealed that they are planning to take part in three tournaments – Asian Badminton Championships (April 27-May 2), Malaysian Open (May 25-30) and Singapore Open (June 1-6). 2nd former aide accuses Cuomo of sexual harassment
A SECOND former aide has come forward with sexual harassment allegations against New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who responded with a statement Saturday saying he never made advances toward her and never intended to be inappropriate. Charlotte Bennett, a health policy adviser in the Democratic governor’s administration until November, told The New York Times that Cuomo asked her inappropriate questions about her sex life, including whether she had ever had sex with older men. Another former aide, Lindsey Boylan, a former deputy secretary for economic development and special adviser to the governor, recently accused Cuomo of subjecting her to an unwanted kiss and inappropriate comments. Cuomo denied the allegations. Cuomo said in a statement Saturday that Bennett was a “hardworking and valued member of our team during Covid” and that “she has every right to speak out.” He said he had intended to be a mentor for Bennett, who is 25. “I never made advances toward Ms. Bennett nor ... » Learn More about 2nd former aide accuses Cuomo of sexual harassment
Understanding How to Run a Religious Healthcare Service
We all need healthcare service, whether we care to think about it or not. Hopefully, we won’t find ourselves in a hospital for an extreme condition—especially these days, when the COVID-19 pandemic is ravaging hospitals and healthcare systems. That being said, healthcare systems are there for a reason. Everyone gets sick and, when they do, they need to put their faith in something. Often, that faith is placed in a healthcare system or in the hands of a doctor or other trusted clinician. Sometimes, though, people are looking for something more than science—a higher power that can help them make sense of their condition and the necessary medications or treatments that accompany it. This niche in the healthcare arena is filled by religious healthcare systems. If that sounds like an oxymoron, it’s not. Actually having a healthcare system that’s guided by a pastor or another religious leader makes a lot of sense. After all, many people believe in both science and a higher power. Premier League Everton Football Club and Chang – The First Season
These days, a football club changing its sponsor can be a real statement of intent. Especially if the new sponsor is based in an area where the club wants to establish a corporate presence. In the aftermath of the Japan/South Korea-hosted 2002 World Cup, Asia became a huge target area for English football’s top clubs. In the summer of 2004, Premier League outfit Everton signed up Chang as their sponsor. Chang’s appointment came at a time when Everton FC was in a dire state on and off the pitch. In 2003/04, a disjointed Everton squad recorded the club’s worst Premier League points tally, finishing 17th in a league of 20 – the final ‘safe’ spot in the league above the relegation zone. The club’s greatest talent in a generation, 18-year old Wayne Rooney was also set to depart the club, eventually ending up at Manchester United. Everton were then considered favorites for relegation in 2004/05. Their opening game of the season seemed to justify those beliefs, with reigning champions ... » Learn More about Premier League Everton Football Club and Chang – The First Season
