TOKYO: Oil prices slid more than 1 per cent on Tuesday, extending losses that began last week, as expectations that OPEC would agree to raise oil supply in a meeting this week added to pressure and worries over slowing demand in China dampened sentiment. Brent crude dropped 70 cents, or 1.1 per cent, to $62.99 a barrel by 0457 GMT, after losing 1.1 per cent the previous day. U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude fell 71 cents, or 1.2 per cent, to $59.93 a barrel, having lost 1.4 per cent on Monday. They both touched the lowest in more than one week. Expectations that the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies, a group known as OPEC+, would boost oil output from April are pushing prices lower, said Satoru Yoshida, a commodity analyst with Rakuten Securities. "Concerns over an increase in OPEC+ supply and an end of Saudi Arabia 's voluntary cut of 1 million barrels per day (bpd) this month weighed on oil prices," he said. Silent guns on LoC raise hopes of peace
An agreement between India and Pakistan, however tenuous, has its own meaning and impact. IMAGE: Indians soldiers at the Line of Control, the border separating India and Pakistan. Photograph: PTI Photo Winds of change have begun to blow in different parts of the world in the end of February 2021, with some potential for major changes in the future. Chinese troops have agreed to mutual withdrawal in the Pangong sector in Ladakh without any particular gain. President Joe Biden launched his first attack abroad, against Iranian supported areas in Syria, justifying it as a warning to Iran. In a delicate balancing act, he has imposed sanctions on certain individuals in Saudi Arabia for the gruesome murder of Jamal Khashoggi , without personally hurting the mastermind. And, surprises of surprises, India and Pakistan have pledged to honour the 2003 cease fire agreement without any apparent provocation. It looked more like formalising a de facto situation as the ... » Learn More about Silent guns on LoC raise hopes of peace
Singapore’s financial management board of Hindu temples to tighten measures to keep track of gold inventory
Singapore’s Hindu Endowments Board (HEB) is taking steps to improve the tracking of all movements of gold items within the four Hindu temples that it manages, the Culture Minister said on March 1, weeks after a former Indian temple chief priest was charged with misappropriating and pawning gold jewellery. Edwin Tong, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, told Parliament on March 1 that the temples’ management committees would tighten oversight of the gold inventories in their temples, Today newspaper reported. The HEB will also carry out more audits each year, including unannounced ones, Mr. Tong said. Mr. Tong was replying to a question asked by parliamentarian Murali Pillai if the HEB had done a review of the case at Sri Mariamman Temple and if steps were being taken to prevent a repeat. Kandasamy Senapathi, the former chief priest of the 149-year-old Sri Mariamman Temple, was charged on February 16 with allegedly misappropriating 172 pieces of jewellery from the temple ... » Learn More about Singapore’s financial management board of Hindu temples to tighten measures to keep track of gold inventory

Amid subdued growth in the urban markets, Nestlé India is looking to aggressively expand its footprint in the rural markets, with a target to reach 1,20,000 villages in the next 2-3 years, bolstered by targeted products as well as campaigns, Suresh Narayanan, Chairman and Managing Director, Nestlé India said. Speaking to select mediapersons, Mr. Narayanan said for the next few quarters, the rural market is expected to continue to outpace urban markets in terms of growth. The company had taken steps in the last 2-3 years to enhance the rural footprint and the number stood at 89,000 villages in 2019, from 1,000 villages in 2017, he added. “The target that we have got is to reach 1,20,000 villages — that is all villages with a population of more than 5,000. Argentine titanosaur could be the oldest ever found: study
(Subscribe to Science For All, our weekly newsletter, where we aim to take the jargon out of science and put the fun in. Click here .) A colossal dinosaur dug up in Argentina could be the oldest titanosaur ever found, having roamed what is now Patagonia some 140 million years ago at the beginning of the Cretaceous period, scientists said Sunday. The 65-foot lizard, Ninjatitan zapatai , was discovered in 2014 in the Neuquen province of southwest Argentina, the La Matanza University reported on its analysis. "The main importance of this fossil, apart from being a new species of titanosaur, is that it is the oldest recorded for this group worldwide," a statement quoted researcher Pablo Gallina of the Conicet scientific council as saying.
