'It is not happening in the same manner as it was happening during the time of the Peshwas.' Image only published for representational purposes. Bhima-Koregaon near Pune witnessed tension and violence this year when Dalits, like they have done for many years now, congregated at the site of the battle between the East India Company and the Peshwa's forces exactly 200 years ago. Aiding the British in the battle of Bhima-Koregaon were the Mahars, a Dalit community who claim the victory against the Peshwa empire as their own and commemorate it every year. This year, events took on an added edge with Jignesh Mevani , the newly elected Dalit MLA from Gujarat, visiting the site, incorporating a Jay Stambh or victory memorial, to pay tribute. Violence broke between those marking the victory over the Peshwas and those protesting the commemoration, in which one person was killed. 37 years after British diplomat Percy Norris was shot dead in Mumbai, family still seeking answers
The family of a high-profile British diplomat who was assassinated in Mumbai 37 years ago has said it will “welcome” a reinvestigation of the case by British and Indian authorities. Madeleine and Martin Norris, children of slain Deputy High Commissioner Percy Norris, insist that the case has not been investigated thoroughly. “We would very much welcome a proper investigation into the assassination,” Madeleine Norris told The Hindu in response to a question. She had accompanied her parents Angela and Percy to Mumbai, where her father was appointed Deputy High Commissioner of the United Kingdom in October 1984. The assignment in Mumbai was crucial, as the Margaret Thatcher Government wanted to reach out to the new generation of Indian entrepreneurs and increase bilateral trade. Man City earns 18th straight win, Spurs lose again in EPL
Exactly three months ago, Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham was outwitting Manchester City to go top of the Premier League and leave Pep Guardiola doubting the direction he was taking his slumping midtable team. On Sunday, Mourinho was downplaying talk of a crisis at Tottenham while virtually ruling out its chances of finishing in the top four, and Guardiola was celebrating an 18th straight win in all competitions as City took a major step toward another league title. Things are changing fast in the lives of two of football’s most storied managers, whose teams are going in opposite directions this season. City beat Arsenal 1-0 thanks to Raheem Sterling’s second-minute header to preserve its 10-point lead over Manchester United and Leicester, which both also won Sunday. City’s last defeat in any competition? That 2-0 loss at Tottenham, 26 games ago. “The run has been incredible,” Guardiola said. “I could not expect it.” That victory back in November is looking like the high point of a ... » Learn More about Man City earns 18th straight win, Spurs lose again in EPL

Be honest: KP tells Root & Co
England's defeat in two days may have raised questions about the quality of the pitch at the N M Stadium in Ahmedabad -- Scyld Berry, cricket writer for The Telegraph in London posted an apoplectic column, where he wanted India to be docked World Test Championship points for what he felt was a poor pitch -- but Kevin Pietersen has rubbished the criticism and wants the English batsmen to learn from their mistakes. England were 74/2 in the first innings in the day-night Test after winning the toss before crumbling to 112 all out. The second innings was no better; England lost two wickets in the first three balls before crashing to 81 all out. Speaking to Murali Kartik during the post match presentation, Virat Kohli blamed the batsmen from both teams for getting out off straight balls. 'I hope there are some England batters waking up this morning and being honest with themselves at least, by acknowledging their batting was dreadful on that wicket?!
