BENGALURU: Lineless, cashless and cashierless stores are coming close to you. Online grocery BigBasket is planning to roll out unmanned convenience stores in Bengaluru sometime early next year as part of a pilot project that seeks to replicate an Amazon Go-like shopping experience. The plan is to have 10 such stores to begin with. Each store will have half a dozen self-service scales. Computer vision and AI will be used to understand the items you have bought and the amount you have to pay. All payments will be through digital modes.The project is being overseen by CTO Rakshit Daga's office. Sources told TOI that they have identified store locations. The pilot project will have vegetables, fruits and some packaged items. BigBasket declined to comment on the development. NEW DELHI: India’s fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) industry displayed signs of recovery in the third quarter of 2020 with a 1.6% growth (versus Q3 ’19), after an unprecedented decline of -19% in the January-March (Q1’20) quarter. Although it slashed its 2020 growth outlook for the industry for the third time in the year to -3% from -1%, research and analytics company, Nielsen on Thursday said the recovery augured well for the sector that is being buffeted around by strong headwinds after having faced the full onslaught of the Covid-19 pandemic.“The revival was aided by businesses opening up with the pandemic reaching stable levels.
