Piano mastery comes early for blind girl
Chen Lin loves the piano, having developed an unusually fine sense of hearing and concentration — abilities that have served her well as she has learned to play. She touches the hearts of many. Chen Lin is blind. Born in Shantou, Guangdong province in 2010, Chen is "different". She suffers from a rare congenital condition that took her eyesight at birth. Her experiences growing up were unlike other children. Yet, despite her disability, Chen refuses to bow to fate. It was music that opened her world. While Chen can't see, her other senses are sharper than those of ordinary people. With her excellent perception and diligent practice, she developed quickly on the piano and began to perform on stage after only one year. After two years, she started winning international prizes. She won the classical performance award in the finals of the Antonio Vivaldi Art Festival in Vienna, Austria, when she was just 9 years old. Young officials urged to carry on CPC virtues
Xi calls for persistent efforts from Party to continue winning people's support Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, has encouraged young officials to faithfully pass on the Party's glorious traditions and fine work style and strive to make new accomplishments in the country's journey to build a modern socialist nation. He also underscored the need for young officials to keep improving their willpower, perseverance and self-control, while addressing the opening ceremony of a study session on Monday at the Party School of the Central Committee of the CPC attended by young and middle-aged officials. The Party must make persistent efforts to give play to its glorious traditions and fine work style if it is to continue to win the support of the people, said Xi, who is also Chinese president and chairman of the Central Military Commission. Capitol defenders blame bad intelligence for deadly breach
Faulty intelligence was to blame for the outmanned Capitol defenders' failure to anticipate the violent mob that invaded the iconic building and halted certification of the presidential election on January 6, the officials who were in charge of security declared in their first public testimony on the insurrection. The officials, including the former chief of the Capitol Police, on Tuesday pointed their fingers at various federal agencies — and each other — for their failure to defend the building as supporters of then-President Donald Trump overwhelmed security barriers, broke windows and doors and sent lawmakers fleeing from the House and Senate chambers. Five people died as a result of the riot, including a Capitol Police officer and a woman who was shot as she tried to enter the House chamber with lawmakers still inside. Former Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund, who resigned under pressure after the attack, and the other officials said they had expected the protests to be ... » Learn More about Capitol defenders blame bad intelligence for deadly breach
My dream is to see India and Pakistan become true good friends, says Malala Yousafzai
The old philosophy of having borders and divisions doesn’t work anymore and the people in India and Pakistan want to live in peace, Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai said on February 28, stressing that it is her dream to see the two countries become “good friends”. She also said that minorities need protection in every country, be it Pakistan or India, adding that the issue is not related to religion but to the “exploitation of power” and must be taken seriously. Ms. Yousafzai, a Pakistani activist for girls education who miraculously survived a bullet to the head from the militant Taliban in October 2012, said the news of internet shutdown and arrests of activists “protesting peacefully” in India is “worrying” and expressed the hope that the government will make sure that people are heard. “It is my dream to see India and Pakistan become true good friends and that we can visit each other’s countries. You can continue to watch Pakistani dramas, we can continue to watch Bollywood ... » Learn More about My dream is to see India and Pakistan become true good friends, says Malala Yousafzai
South Korea, Japan must look to future to improve ties: Moon Jae-in
South Korean President Moon Jae-in said on Monday that his government is eager for talks with Japan to improve relations following years of bitter feuding over historical grievances, adding that those unresolved issues should not stand in the way of developing “future-oriented” ties. “There have been times where issues of the past weren’t separated from those of the future and became intermingled with each other. This has impeded forward-looking development,” Mr. Moon said in a nationally televised speech commemorating the anniversary of a 1919 Korean uprising against Japanese colonial rule. “The Korean government is always ready to sit down and have talks with the Japanese government,” he said. South Korea and Japan have been struggling to repair relations that sank to their lowest point in decades in 2019 following South Korean court rulings that ordered Japanese companies to pay reparations to Koreans who were forced to work in their factories during World War II. Those ... » Learn More about South Korea, Japan must look to future to improve ties: Moon Jae-in
ABB urges for greater adoption of high-efficiency motors and drives to combat climate change
ABB on Tuesday urged the industry and government for greater adoption of high-efficiency motors and other technologies to combat climate change as they can reduce global electricity consumption by 10 per cent. In a new whitepaper, "ABB reveals potential for significant energy efficiency improvements in industry and infrastructure enabled by the latest and most high-efficiency motors and variable speed drives. ABB calls on governments and industry to accelerate adoption of the technology to help combat climate change", a statement said. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), industry accounts for 37 per cent of global energy use and some 30 per cent of global energy is consumed in buildings, it stated. While mostly hidden from public view, electric motors - and the variable speed drives which optimise their operation - are embedded in almost every built environment, it explained. They power a vast range of applications fundamental to modern way of life, ... » Learn More about ABB urges for greater adoption of high-efficiency motors and drives to combat climate change
