Joed has Boy Abunda to thank for ‘saving’ him

July 30, 2018 philstar Leave a Comment

The smash-hit two-night concert of Celine Dion at the MOA is another feather in the cap of Renen de Guia’s Ovation Productions which has produced the concerts of several other big international artists in Manila. Renen and wife Celina’s son Bogie handles the company’s production, road management and security. “I take my hat off to Bogie for being a genius in putting up a show,” said ex-actor Joed Serrano who, unknown to many people (including some of his friends), was a co-producer of Celine’s concert but requested Renen and Celina (Cel) not to put his company’s name (Joed Presents) on the ads and in the press releases for reasons that Joed would rather not disclose. “Aside from Smart, PLDT and Sunlife, I want to thank Renen and Cel whom I hold in high esteem,” added Joed. “I have other people to thank for saving me, like Tito Boy (Abunda, photo), Ms. Kelly, Bebs, Twinny Gracey, Te Cors, Louie, Ryan and Flor Santos (the … [Read more...] about Joed has Boy Abunda to thank for ‘saving’ him

News Unpacking federalism: Who will rule? Send in the clans

July 18, 2018 abs-cbn Leave a Comment

This latest installment of "PCIJ's Primer on Federalism - Stats on the state of the regions: Who will rule? Send in the clans" focuses on the preponderance of the same political families that have run and won again and again, simultaneously for different posts, in the last five elections. PCIJ's Primer on Federalism - Stats on the state of the regions: Who will rule? Send in the clans A "SELF-EXECUTING" ban on political dynasties is supposedly one of the crown jewels of the draft constitution for the pitch to shift to a federal system of government. It is paired with a proposed ban on turncoatism, or candidates changing political parties between elections or during election campaigns. These are supposed to limit the opportunities for the powerful few to continue to have considerable clout, as well as to prevent candidates from repeatedly making a mockery of the political-party system. But there are a few big ifs. Drafted by the 22-member Consultative Committee to Review the 1987 … [Read more...] about News Unpacking federalism: Who will rule? Send in the clans

May 16, 2018 abs-cbn Leave a Comment

Once in these festive islands

April 9, 2018 robert Leave a Comment

Once in these festive islands MANILA, Philippines — Long before organized religion came to Philippine shores, local folk indulged in nature worship, seeing themselves as guardians of the earth.  Much like today’s eco-warriors, they connected with the seasons, the planet, plants, and animals to ensure a balanced life for the community.  Dance rituals for fertility and abundance, to call forth the wind and the rain, or to appease mother nature herself following some tragic occurrence or natural disaster, also became part and parcel of community life. When the annual Aliwan Fiesta takes to the streets of Manila and Pasay anew on April 26 to 28, a diverse array of festivals will serve as a visual treat for both tourists and locals, audience and participant, in a grand convergence geared toward heightening a sense of kinship amid competitive regionalistic fervor. Seventeen contingents from various cities and municipalities all over the … [Read more...] about Once in these festive islands

News Ilang nitso, pinagnakawan sa barangay sa Abra

March 31, 2018 robert Leave a Comment

[Read more...] about News Ilang nitso, pinagnakawan sa barangay sa Abra
