West Bengal: Mamata Banerjee slams BJP, calls party leaders ‘venomous snakes’
Kolkata: Comparing BJP with “venomous snakes”, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday attacked the ruling party for spreading fake news on social media and making false promises. While addressing a public rally in Purulia, Mamata said, “BJP makes false promises to people before election and disappears after the polls. Do not trust them. Water, roads, jobs -- all the basic amenities are provided by the state government to the people.” Mamata also accused BJP of releasing fake videos and tampering with the truth. “They intimidate media houses and compel them to change the results of opinion polls. Bengal IPS officer in CBI net over illegal coal trade
Even as the tussle between the Centre and Bengal government continues to be a point of friction, the central probe agency CBI grilled the state IPS officer, Tathagata Basu in connection with the illegal coal trade case. With the elections in the state due in May this year, the Centre-Bengal spat is turning murkier by each passing day.Earlier the Centre and the state governments were at loggerheads over the forced transfer of three state IPS officers by the Centre. The Centre had accused these officers of security lapse that led to an attack on the convoy of BJP party president JP Nadda during his visit in the state in November last year. Meanwhile, CBI is investigating senior IPS officer Basu who was the SP Hooghly when a racket regarding illegal coal trade was busted.
