Singapore Press Holdings (SPH), NTUC Income and global life insurance company MetLife's innovation centre are piloting from this month an industry-first initiative to use blockchain to automate life insurance claims for bereaved families. Lifechain, developed by MetLife's LumenLab, will allow SPH to securely encrypt and share data used for obituary placement with Income to search for a matching life insurance policy. Should a match be found, SPH will inform family members within one working day and Lifechain will auto-notify Income to then initiate the claims process. Family members will also be informed by SPH when a match is not found. The pilot, to end in October, will target 1,000 randomly selected Income life insurance policyholders. Family members who place obituaries in The Straits Times will be informed about Lifechain. Jurgen Klopp revelled in the biggest night of his managerial career on Saturday after winning Liverpool's sixth European Cup, ending his own run of six straight losses in finals. Klopp had lost his two previous Champions League finals, against Bayern Munich as Borussia Dortmund boss in 2013 and last year against Real Madrid, as well as the 2016 Europa League final and three domestic cup finals in Germany and England. PUTRAJAYA: Acting Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Abdul Hamid Bador (pix) has been appointed as the new Inspector-General of Police (IGP) for a two-year term, which will take effect on Saturday. Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in a statement today said the Abdul Hamid’s appointment was consented by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah on the advice of Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and recommendation of the Police Commission. “The appointment of Abdul Hamid as the new IGP is on contract basis for a term of two years effective May 4 this year until May 3, 2021. It is done in accordance with Article 140 (4) and (5) of the Federal Consitution,” he said. Abdul Hamid will replace Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun who will go on a mandatory retirement on May 3. JOHOR BARU: The state government will be setting up special task force to inspect or audit strata buildings that are more than 30 years old. Johor Housing, Communications and Multimedia Committee chairman Dzulkefly Ahmad said the special unit would involve local authorities, as well as other departments such as the Fire and Rescue Department, Public Works Department, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and Ranhill SAJ. He said the special unit would ensure these buildings are safe for occupation apart from ensuring the suitable restorations needed to extend the life of such buildings. “The move to audit or inspect such old residential strata buildings is a preemptive measure for the safety of occupants,“ he said in a statement here today.
