European aerospace giant Airbus and Paris underground operator RATP will study the viability of adding flying vehicles to the city's urban transport network, the companies said Wednesday. The firms will "explore the feasibility of urban air mobility services" in the French capital and the broader Ile de France region, they said in a statement. "Airbus is developing demonstrators of autonomous and unmanned technologies," said the company's chief executive Guillaume Faury. "This is not science-fiction any more, It is fact. Today we have all the technical tools. But they have to be integrated into everyday life without jeopardising our priority, which is safety," he added. RATP is a good partner in such a project because of its knowledge of the associated needs and services," said Faury. Chief executive Catherine Guillouard of RATP, which manages Paris' bus, train, and underground services, said mass transport remained the group's core business, but it also sought "to develop new … [Read more...] about Flying cars mooted for Paris’ public transport network

While the status quo of transportation in Singapore is public transport, cars still make up a considerable portion of travel. But cars are no affordable alternative to public transportation as purchasing a car often requires a six-figure commitment. Thus, many people consider leasing rather than purchasing a vehicle. However, while leasing a car requires lower up front costs and peace of mind regarding maintenance and insurance, will it save the driver money over the long term? We break down the costs below. OWNING A CAR COSTS MORE INITIALLY, BUT IS CHEAPER LONG-TERM When deciding whether to buy or lease a car, drivers consider more than just the price of the vehicle. In the case of leasing, the convenience is an attractive benefit since you get a brand new car for a neat monthly price that includes insurance, roadside assistance, maintenance and road tax. Another benefit with leasing that can entice financially constrained drivers is that the upfront cost is an affordable deposit that … [Read more...] about Buying or leasing a car: Which one is cheaper?
Dyson Ltd.’s electric car may have a long wheel base, an interior cabin with reclining seats and an aerodynamic design, according to patents awarded to the company. The patents, filed about 18 months ago and made public Wednesday, are the first glimpse of the car being built by the U.K.-based company known for pricey vacuums, hair dryers and air purifiers. In an email to staff, founder James Dyson said the patents "don’t reveal what our vehicle will really look like or give any specifics around what it will do," but they do "provide a glimpse of some of the inventive steps" the company is weighing. The patents also indicate Dyson is mulling a vehicle with larger wheels to improve efficiency. Dyson’s email also hinted at a car with a low center of gravity to improve handling. The company posted a new automotive page to its website detailing its history in the automotive world and how its experience working on motors could contribute to a car. By Raju Mudhar Staff Reporter Thu., May 9, 2019 The Art Gallery of Ontario is introducing a new pricing structure where all visitors under 25 will be free. Visitors over 25 will be able to buy an annual pass for $35 dollars. Single visits will now be $25 — an increase of $5 — but it will include all the gallery’s shows, with no additional fees for special exhibitions. “This is a radical shift for us,” said Stephan Jost, CEO of the gallery. “It changes your marketing. It changes how people move through the museum. It changes our family programming. It changes everything.” Jost says the gallery has done test marketing, but can’t be sure how tourists will react to the price structure. What will happen if this loses the gallery gobs of money? “Stephan, you’re fired!” he jokes. “Like, if all our $250 members go down to $35 level, that is not so good. But somebody has got to make the try. The … [Read more...] about AGO to be free for people under 25
Three men have been jailed for accepting bribes after a report by The New Paper last year. The report, published on July 13, said budget airline Scoot was investigating claims that a baggage-touting syndicate was operating at Changi Airport. Checks by TNP then found that passengers with excess baggage were being offered lower rates by touts, and this led to investigations by Scoot and Sats. Yesterday, Indian national Patel Hiteshkumar Chandubhai, 37, was jailed for eight weeks for accepting at least $800 in bribes. He was ordered to pay a penalty of $800. He is the third man to be jailed in the past week for accepting bribes to under-report the weight of passenger bags at Changi Airport. Patel worked as a customer service associate for logistics service provider UBTS between January 2015 and November 2016. His responsibilities included assisting passengers at boarding gates and check-in counters for Tigerair flights. He took the money from Indian national Gopal Krishna Raju, 37, whose … [Read more...] about Third man jailed for under-reporting Scoot baggage weight for bribes
