'Dev Anand was the king of my generation -- Western in his sensibilities and very carefree. I was in love with those movies and the promise of the exciting world that they presented,' recalls Aseem Chhabra. T he first Dev Anand film I fell in love with was Hare Rama Hare Krishna . The year was 1971. It was an entertaining but also a tragic story of the brother searching for his sister, amidst the drugged-out hippies and others living on the edge of the society, in a paradise called Kathmandu. Listen to Dev Anand's songs here Hare Rama Hare Krishna made me understand what it meant to rebel. No, I did not start to take drugs or run away from home, but there was magic and so much of angst in the lyrics of the song that sort of became the anthem of the youth of that decade -- Duniya Ne Hum Ko Diya Kya? Duniya Se Hum Ne Liya Kya? Hum Sab Ke Parwa Kare Kyon? Sab Ne Hamara Kiya Kya? The Biden administration announced sanctions and visa bans on Friday targeting Saudi Arabian citizens over the 2018 killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi , but stopped short of imposing sanctions on Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman himself. U.S. President Joe Biden's actions in the first weeks of his administration appear aimed at fulfilling campaign promises to realign Saudi ties after critics accused his predecessor, Donald Trump, of giving the Arab ally and major oil producer a pass on gross human rights violations. A senior Biden administration official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the approach aims to create a new launching-off point for ties with the kingdom without breaking a core relationship in the Middle East. Relations have been severely strained for years by the war in Yemen and the killing inside a Saudi consulate of Khashoggi, a U.S. resident who wrote columns for the Washington Post critical of the crown prince's policies. Importantly, the decisions ... » Learn More about U.S. imposes sanctions, visa bans on Saudis for journalist Khashoggi’s killing
As business or burden, function or fashion, they've appeared in scenes and songs to assert many an emotion. And so after looking at trees , terrace , chandeliers , jhoola and balloons , Sukanya Verma looks at Bollywood's cool, curious, bag moments. Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa God bless Juhi Chawla for showing up in the final scene and saving us from the heartbreak of watching Shah Rukh Khan sulk in singlehood. New in town and asking for directions, she's arrived with quite a bit of luggage, which she valiantly attempts to carry alone until a chivalry personified SRK volunteers to help. Bottom-line: Things aren't so bad when you find someone to share the load. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara Three friends decide on a road trip in Spain for one's bachelor party. But it's the details of Zoya Akhtar's storytelling that tells us about their temperament. June 18, 2020 13:53 North Korea announced Wednesday that it will re-deploy troops in the shuttered Kaesong Industrial Complex, the Mt. Kumgang resort and guard posts along the demilitarized zone. It also threatened to resume coastal artillery drills along the Northern Limit Line, the de facto maritime border off the North Korean coast. That puts an effective end to a de-escalation pact aimed signed by the two Korean leaders in 2018. In fact, all key agreements that the current government signed with the North have become useless, and North Korea is once again threatening to turn Seoul into a "sea of fire." North Korea's claims that its recent histrionics were caused by South Korea's failure to stop activists from flying propaganda leaflets across the border are eyewash. The North is merely trying to pressure the South to get the U.S. to lift sanctions. That is why it said South Korea must "calculate the price for this crisis to end" and "compensate by showing proper action." ... » Learn More about Is Seoul Ready to Deal with N.Korean Military Provocations

September 28, 2020 13:40 North Korea on Sunday warned South Korea to stay away from its territorial waters as the South searches for the missing body of a Korean official who was slaughtered by the North after he had been adrift in the West Sea. The North was not even referring to the Northern Limit Line, the de facto maritime border, but the border it unilaterally drew on the map in 2007 and which runs further south. Only last Friday North Korean leader Kim Jong-un sent a letter saying he was "greatly sorry" for the "unfortunate" incident that "should not have happened." But North Korea also accused the South of "unilateral conjecture" and "profane expressions," referring to the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff report that the North doused the body in oil and set it ablaze. Of course the North Korean public has no idea that the apology was sent but got a full dose of the warnings about intruding its waters from the state media. An apology that has to be kept secret from ... » Learn More about Why Is the Gov’t so Eager to Defend Kim Jong-un?
