How does Trump cheat? Let us count the ways: Trump doesn’t just cheat at golf. He cheats like a three-card Monte dealer. He throws it, boots it, and moves it. He lies about his lies. He fudges and foozles and fluffs. At Winged Foot where Trump is a member, the caddies got so used to seeing him kick his ball back onto the fairway they came up with a nickname for him: “Pele.” COMMANDER IN CHEAT: HOW GOLF EXPLAINS DONALD TRUMP Donald Trump, no big fan of Barack Obama, used to rant and rave about how much time the 44th US president spent golfing. Turns out Obama had nothing on Donald Trump. According to TrumpGolfCount.com, Trump has made 175 daytime visits to golf courses during his two-plus years as president, at an estimated cost to US taxpayers — including Secret Service and other travel expenses — of $99 million. That’s a lot of money to get in 18 holes regularly. Trump not only loves golfing, he loves to build golf courses and escape the … [Read more...] about Donald Trump’s Game of Holes

The next season of “Empire” will be its last, Fox said Monday, bringing an end to the network’s most-talked-about hit in recent years and marking the start of a new era for the No. 4 US broadcaster. Fox announced the cancellation on the eve of its annual presentation for advertisers, the first since parent Fox Corp. sold its film and TV studios to Walt Disney Co. Networks use the presentations, called upfronts, to sell advertisers on their upcoming program schedules, locking in billions of advertising ahead of the new TV season. Fox is looking to lift the ratings of its entertainment programming after a couple of years of looking up at the competition. The network is last among the Big Four networks in total viewers, and just one show, the singing competition “The Masked Singer,” ranks among the top 25 shows with the 18-to-49-year-old demographic that advertisers target. “Today marks a new beginning for Fox Entertainment,” programming … [Read more...] about Fox announces end of ‘Empire,’ orders 10 shows to bolster slate
By Chris Klimek Opinion Emile Therien Opinion Tues., May 14, 2019 The Ontario government is looking at raising the speed limit on 400-series highways to 120 km/h. Chris Klimek, founder and director of advocacy group stop100.ca, argues this is a good idea, while Emile Therien, public health and safety advocate insists it is not. Speed limits should be apolitical and set by trained engineers. Public feedback is best solicited by observing the actual speeds drivers drive, using an engineering speed study. Engineers conduct a speed study and determine the speed not exceeded by a supermajority of drivers, known as the 85th percentile. This engineering guideline has been used around the world to set safe speed limits for about 70 years — with stellar results. More than 60 countries and states around the world post 120- and 130-km/h speed limits on their divided highways. Article Continued Below My organization, stop100.ca, obtained two sets of data showing … [Read more...] about Should Ontario raise speed limits on major highways?
By Ben Strauss The Washington Post Tues., April 30, 2019 In the spring of 1998, ESPN launched a new magazine, with a cover featuring a series of young stars primed to take over their sports. Kobe Bryant led a cast that also included Alex Rodriguez, Kordell Stewart and Eric Lindros. The quartet stared straight ahead, steely-eyed, aside a headline that read, “Next” in big red letters. It was a reference to the aspirations of the magazine, too. “It was a very brash statement,” John Skipper, the former ESPN president who oversaw the launch of the magazine, said recently on Bill Simmons’ podcast. Twenty-one years later, ESPN the Magazine — at least the print version — will be cancelled. ESPN announced an internal reorganization Tuesday under senior vice president of content Rob King, part of which includes ceasing publication of the magazine in September. “Consumer habits are evolving rapidly, and this requires ESPN to evolve … [Read more...] about ESPN the Magazine will cease print edition
