Songkran Survival Guide – Top 10 Tips (2019)

Songkran is a celebration of the Thai New Year on April 13 each year. What started as a respectful washing of Buddha images with water to welcome in the forthcoming wet season, has turned into a mega-water fight. No prisoners are taken in this annual water battle – if you head outside or drive along the roads you WILL get wet. If you’re in a car it WILL get water thrown at it and probably a few handprints made with the sludge left over from the Prickly Powder. It is a celebration and there’s plenty of music, noise, smiles AND water. Sawasdee pi mai!! Happy Songkran. 1) Wear goggles Where did that water come from that just shot in your eye? You don’t know and you probably don’t want to know! Suffice to say your eyes are at danger from the many things that end up in the water, including the prickly powder that was thrown at you and now dribbling down your forehead or added to the water before it was squirted at you. It will sting either way. A cheap pair of ... » Learn More about Songkran Survival Guide – Top 10 Tips (2019)

Top 10 things that changed in Thailand during the Covid outbreak

Things have changed. In some cases they’ve changed a lot and may never be the same again. Many people are suffering as a result of the impacts of lockdowns and the border closures. Entire industries, like aviation and entertainment, have been profoundly affected. Some people are being forced to re-invent their lives as a result. Fears over Covid-19 are causing people to change their habits and re-evaluate their lives. Here are some of the main things we believe have changed since January this year. Face Masks The now ever-present face mask will be with us for a long time. In Asia, it was never uncommon to see people wearing face masks for traffic, air pollution, fears of disease or just as a fashion statement. In the Covid-era, mask wearing will now just become part of what we wear when in public spaces. When we leave home we’ll check if we have our keys, our wallet AND our face mask. Even when the government relaxes the current laws about the wearing of face masks, most ... » Learn More about Top 10 things that changed in Thailand during the Covid outbreak

Top 10 hard truths of living as an expat in Thailand

There will be bumps along the way between your visits to the beach, bar and immigration office (sometimes the bumps will be at the beach, bar and immigration office). 10 ways you’ve been exercising without even realising it

For decades, researchers assumed you needed to break a sweat – or at least raise your heart rate for a prolonged period – for an activity to count as exercise. However, new research suggests activities like lifting shopping bags and walking up the stairs can help with weight management and actually count toward recommended exercise guidelines. YAY! That’s good news for those of us who absolutely hate exercising. Here are ten activities that sneak exercise into your daily routine while also crossing things off your to-do list: 1. Shopping Whether you’re buying groceries or a new pair of shoes, shopping means walking, and walking burns calories (we’re talking upwards of 200 calories per hour). You can get an even better workout by parking far from the store’s entrance and avoiding elevators and escalators. Bonus: Try two stairs at a time to really get things moving. 2. Cleaning the house Vacuuming, sweeping, or Swiffering is good for 150 calories per hour. So turn on ... » Learn More about 10 ways you’ve been exercising without even realising it

Top 10 Tourist Attractions in Chiang Rai: Excluding Temples

Chiang Rai – This beautiful city in Thailand has a history that goes further back than its more than three-decade duration as the capital of the Lanna Kingdom. It is considered one of the oldest settlements in Thailand. Although it might not be as popular as Chang Mai in terms of tourism, what makes it a perfect destination is the strong affiliation with the Tai culture – the origin of the Lanna People – which can be seen virtually everywhere around the city. Despite the strong cultural affiliation, the city is evolving through new art to modernize the Lanna culture in a bid to offer a new perspective for visitors looking to understand what it means to belong to the Lanna Culture. However, before you leave on your vacation, you have to make sure that you have everything in place. From your tickets to your hotels being booked. But most especially, you need to make sure you bought your travel insurance to protect you from unexpected expenses that might result from health issues, ... » Learn More about Top 10 Tourist Attractions in Chiang Rai: Excluding Temples

More than 10,000 domestic tourists flocked onto Koh Larn on first day of holiday weekend

Koh Larn, Pattaya- More than 10,000 domestic tourists have flocked onto Koh Larn during a 3-day-long holiday weekend, according to Bali Hai Pier authorities. Today (February 26 th ) is Makha Bucha, a religious holiday and the first day of a 3-day-long holiday weekend. Tourists are more confident with domestic travel and with Pattaya’s safety measures, which has seen no confirmed cases of Covid -19 for many days. Chonburi, the province where Pattaya is located, was downgraded by the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration from an “orange” zone, which was a control zone, to a “yellow” zone earlier this week, which brings more relaxed restrictions and has built confidence with domestic tourists. Domestic tourists in the thousands were seen waiting at the Bali Hai Pier where they took boats to Koh Larn. Koh Larn had been closed for all of January to non-residents due to Covid-19, which also helped restore the natural environment and beaches.
