BJP to go solo in 2022 Mumbai civic body polls against Shiv Sena
Mumbai: Days after the Shiv Sena snapped ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the latter on Sunday decided to contest the 2022 Mumbai civic body elections on its own. The Sena has been controlling the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the country's richest civic body, since the last 30 years. "The BJP has decided to contest the upcoming BMC elections on its own and come to power. We will have our Mayor for sure. By January 1 next year, the BJP will complete most of its party-level appointments including the state president," state BJP president Chandrakant Patil said. Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress government yet to reach understanding over portfolios
Mumbai: It has been over a week since the Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress government took charge in Maharashtra but the trio is yet to reach an understanding over portfolios. Even the six Cabinet ministers, who were sworn in along with chief minister Uddhav Thackeray on November 28, haven’t been allocated ministries. According to insiders, Congress had agreed to eight Cabinet and five ministers of state berths but the party changed its position and began insisting on one more Cabinet berth, especially after senior party leaders, such as Ashok Chavan and Prithviraj Chavan, began exerting pressure on the leadership. The expansion of the Thackeray ministry is also being delayed due to the changing positions of Shiv Sena and NCP over the home department and other portfolios. Prior to government-formation, it was agreed that NCP would head home, however, according to one of the people mentioned above, Sena has now staked claim to both the home and urban development ministries.
