A study has revealed that increased testosterone levels in male bodies will make them more obsessed with expensive luxury brands. As per the joint study, published in the journal Nature Communications, was conducted by researchers at the INSEAD, the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, the Wharton Neuroscience Initiative, Ivey Business School, California Institute of Technology and ZRT Laboratories, testosterone is a major influencer of male consumer behaviour. The new study report indicates that the level of testosterone in a male body has direct impacts in boosting the social status, and this is the reason why people with high testosterone levels tend to buy expensive apparels, clothing, watches and cars. The intense desire to buy luxury goods among men with high testosterone levels has some biological reasons too. As per the study report, displaying higher social status brings various benefits to the life of men including increased mating opportunities, and huge access … [Read more...] about Increased testosterone levels compel men to buy expensive luxury brands, says study

Caster Semenya fights IAAF rule which punishes excellence
By Morgan Campbell Sports Reporter Wed., June 20, 2018 This winter, the International Association of Athletics Federations renewed a curiously focused fight against testosterone. In March, the IAAF council approved rules capping naturally-occurring testosterone in female athletes, even though males faced no similar limits. And the initiative applied only to races from 400 metres to one mile, even while the IAAF’s research showed natural testosterone had the greatest effect on women competing in the pole vault and hammer throw. The proposal didn’t target South African track star Caster Semenya by name, but its specificity signalled the IAAF meant to slow down the fastest 800-metre runner of her generation. Monday morning, the three-time world champion fought back, launching a lawsuit in the Swiss-based Court of Arbitration for Sport hoping to prevent a rule change the IAAF hopes to implement this November. The IAAF maintains it aims to establish … [Read more...] about Caster Semenya fights IAAF rule which punishes excellence
IAAF’s testosterone targets are ‘Caster profiling,’ critics say
By Morgan Campbell Sports Reporter Wed., April 18, 2018 Caster Semenya didn’t pick between her two best events at this month’s Commonwealth Games. Instead, the South African track star dominated both, winning gold and setting Games records in the women’s 800 and 1500 metres. But a new rule proposed by track and field’s international governing body could force the 27-year-old into a difficult choice. The IAAF approved a proposal last month to limit naturally-produced testosterone for female competitors in the 400, 800 and 1500 metres — events in which Semenya competes. The IAAF hopes to implement the rule by November, and imposing it could force Semenya, a two-time Olympic champion, to choose between retirement and treatment to reduce her natural testosterone output. Critics say the proposal aims specifically to neutralize Semenya, the most dominant women’s 800-metre runner of the last decade, and sets a dangerous, sexist … [Read more...] about IAAF’s testosterone targets are ‘Caster profiling,’ critics say
The highs and lows of testosterone
NEW YORK: Getting a high testosterone reading offers bragging rights for some men of a certain age - and may explain, in part, the lure of testosterone supplements. But once you are within a normal range, does your level of testosterone - the male hormone touted to build energy, libido and confidence - really tell you that much?Probably not, experts say.Normal testosterone levels in men range from about 300 nanograms to 1,000 nanograms per deciliter of blood. Going from one number within the normal zone to another one may not pack much of a punch.“You don’t see the big improvement once men are within the normal range,” said Dr Shalender Bhasin, an endocrinologist and professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School. The largest differences in terms of energy and sex drive are when men go from below-normal to normal levels.A 2015 study in JAMA found that sex drive improved among men who went from about 230, considered low, to 500, … [Read more...] about The highs and lows of testosterone
Taking a lot of ibuprofen could be putting men’s fertility at risk, according to a new study
Men who take ibuprofen for long periods of time could be putting their fertility at risk. According to a new study, prolonged use may decrease the testes’ ability to produce testosterone. This could result in a condition only usually seen in smokers and older people. If you have a headache, it’s likely you’ll find a painkiller like paracetamol or ibuprofen in the cupboard. These pills are such a normal part of our lives, we barely think about popping a couple to soothe our ailments. However, in recent years, ibuprofen in particular has been linked to an increased risk of heart attacks and strokes, meaning we should be more cautious when taking anti-inflammatory drugs. According to a new study, published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America (PNAS), men who take ibuprofen for months at a time could also be putting their fertility at risk. Researchers … [Read more...] about Taking a lot of ibuprofen could be putting men’s fertility at risk, according to a new study
