KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court here today allowed the prosecution to publish a notice in the Gazette calling upon any third party with interest on the hundreds of bags of various brands and other property, including cash in various currencies, watches and 27 cars that were seized from former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak, his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, their three children and 13 other individuals and companies. NADI – He calls it magic, the Garden of Eden, the University of Life. After a tour of the Koroipita model community three kilometers away from Lautoka, Fiji’s second largest city, you can forgive Australia-born Peter Drysdale for his profuse praise for his own life’s work. A trip last Friday afternoon to Koroipita – meaning Peter’s Village, as the community was named by grateful residents – was a highlight of my visit to Fiji. With enough workers, each house can be built within days at a cost of US$11,500 (about P600,000) for materials. There might be cheaper low-cost shelters available elsewhere in the world, … [Read more...] about The Garden of Eden

While you may not be eligible for another decade or so, it's a good idea to know how much you'll need to buy a flat so you can start getting your finances in order. We talk to Amy Lim, an associate division director at Propnex Realty, to help you figure out what sort of flat you'll be able to get at 35, and how much you'll need to put down for it*. BTO OR RESALE? There are two main options when it comes to buying a HDB flat: brand new Build-to-Order (BTO) flats or resale flats from the open market. If you're earning $6,000 or less a month, you can apply for either. But if you're earning more than that, you can only apply for a resale flat. IF YOU GO FOR A BTO FLAT... BTO flats have 99-year leases and are generally much cheaper than resale flats. According to Amy, a two-room BTO flat in Punggol goes for about $130,000. Assuming you pay for 20 per cent of it … [Read more...] about Can you afford a HDB flat when you’re 35 and single?
REUTERS: When Warren Buffett takes the stage at Berkshire Hathaway Inc's shareholders' meeting on Saturday, the 88-year-old billionaire will be greeted, as usual, by tens of thousands of adoring followers from around the world.Yet the Berkshire chairman and chief executive officer's optimism about the state of capitalism, a likely theme as he and Vice Chairman Charlie Munger field questions for five hours, may appear out of touch with the rise of populism in his country.Buffett's endorsements of corporate stock buybacks, the much-criticized longtime Berkshire holding Wells Fargo, and employer-focused attempts to reform healthcare put the Oracle of Omaha at odds with the drive among some Americans to tackle income inequality using root-and-branch reforms. Many announced Democratic presidential candidates for 2020 have endorsed such measures as government-sponsored healthcare and the reining in of big banks, policies that might seem antithetical to Buffett's Omaha, Nebraska-based … [Read more...] about Pilgrimage to see Warren Buffett out of step with populist mood
