Boarding schools rise in popularity in the US during Covid-19 pandemic

(NYTIMES) - Boarding school had never been on the cards for Landon Moore. In December last year, he was a senior at Bloomington High School in Illinois in the United States. He had always assumed his father, the school's principal, would hand him his diploma when he graduated, as to his older brother before him. But his classes in the autumn were virtual, and with the sports season cancelled, Landon, 18, saw his dream of earning a basketball scholarship to college fade. And so, in the first week of January, his parents drove him seven hours to Western Reserve Academy, a boarding school in Hudson, Ohio, which he entered as a junior, giving him a chance to return to in-person learning and delay the college sports recruitment circuit for a year. "I never would have imagined any of this a year ago," said Landon's mother, Ms Angie Moore, 49, who works in human resources. Families like the Moores, who never would have considered sending their children to boarding schools before the ... » Learn More about Boarding schools rise in popularity in the US during Covid-19 pandemic

S’pore retailer Naiise closes last store at Jewel Changi, may wind up operations

SINGAPORE - Multi-label retailer Naiise may wind up, after years of payment delays to its vendors. It said on Friday (April 9) that it is closing its last store at Jewel Changi Airport. Jewel Changi Airport confirmed to The Straits Times on Saturday that the retailer will be closing its outlet at the mall. "A tenant has been found to take over the space and this will be shared when the store is ready to open," its spokesman said. In a video posted on Facebook on Friday by debt collectors, Naiise founder Dennis Tay could be seen explaining that he is unable to pay back their client Bespoke Parfums Artisanaux, which said it is owed about $10,000. Citing factors such as the Covid-19 pandemic and weak retail sales, Mr Tay explained that he was unable to honour the debt repayment plan he had promised some vendors due to a lack of funds. Another man in the video who identified himself as Mr Tay's financial adviser added: "When a private limited (company) closes, the liquidator ... » Learn More about S’pore retailer Naiise closes last store at Jewel Changi, may wind up operations

When asked if Saturday's clash in the Spanish capital would be the last of the pair's careers at Spain's top two clubs, Madrid coach Zidane said: "I hope not". "Sergio is not going to play tomorrow. It's sad, but I really hope that he will stay here," the Frenchman added of the injured 35-year-old. Zidane also said he hoped Messi would remain at Barca for the good of Spanish football, joking "let him stay at Barcelona -- he's doing very well there!"
