A mainland Chinese actress has apologised for releasing a photo in which she presented a controversial pose designed to show-off her slender waist and body shape. The Z-shape, or “cartoon waist”, has been in fashion for weeks on social media in China, with women putting their legs flat on a chair while lying their upper body on the ground to show off a supposedly ideal slender figure. The pose is in imitation of a cartoon picture of an unrealistic body shape created by an unknown Anhui-based designer that has widely been shared online. Yang Mi, a popular actress in China, claimed she was “curious” and took up the challenge of replicating this “difficult stretching movement”, she said on Weibo. She shared her photo online on Sunday (March 21) along with Chinese words: “it’s a bit difficult”. The post received praise for her slimness and body flexibility, along with plenty of criticism. “I don’t understand why so many people are following the trend to do this. Image: AFP/Getty Images North America/Jemal Countess The Netflix-produced series “Lupin”, a sly modern take on France’s beloved gentleman thief, is on track for 70 million views worldwide in its first month, setting a record for a French TV show, the streaming platform said Tuesday. On the basis of current trends the series — starring Omar Sy of “Untouchable” fame — will have breezed past Netflix’s biggest recent blockbuster “The Queen’s Gambit” which has 62 million views and other English-language hits including “Bridgerton.” The Netflix projection covers the 28 days to February 5, the company told AFP. “70 million, that’s crazy”, Omar Sy tweeted. “So proud that Lupin is the first French series to have such an international success.” Only half of the first season’s 10 episodes have so far been available on Netflix. They are top of the viewing charts in around 10 countries, including Brazil, Vietnam, Argentina and Spain. Palace intrigue harms Jordan’s stable image
(Adds dropped word in paragraph 14) AMMAN (Reuters) - Unprecedented public criticism of Jordan's monarchy by a senior royal who has been placed under house arrest has shaken the country's image as an island of stability in the Middle East. On Saturday, Jordan's military told King Abdullah's half brother Prince Hamza bin Hussein to halt actions targeting "security and stability" in the key U.S. ally. In unusually tough language recorded on a video passed by his lawyer to the BBC, Prince Hamza, 41, said he had been placed under house arrest and criticised Jordan's leaders as a corrupt few who have placed their interests above those of the public. "Damage has happened. For the first time we have someone rocking the image of that peaceful, stable kingdom," said a former minister. King Abdullah, 59, removed Hamza from his position as crown prince in 2004, thwarting the ambitions of his stepmother Queen Noor who had groomed her eldest son for the throne since childhood. ... » Learn More about Palace intrigue harms Jordan’s stable image
3 dead as woman beheaded in knife attack at French church
NICE, France - A knife-wielding attacker shouting “Allahu Akbar” beheaded a woman and killed two other people in a suspected terrorist attack at a church in the French city of Nice on Thursday, police and officials said. Nice’s mayor, Christian Estrosi, who described the attack as terrorism, said on Twitter it had happened in or near the city’s Notre Dame church and that police had detained the attacker. Estrosi said the attacker had shouted the phrase “Allahu Akbar”, or God is greatest. One of the people killed inside the church was believed to be the church warden, Estrosi said. The attacker kept shouting “Allahu Akbar” even after he had been detained, Estrosi said. “The suspected knife attacker was shot by police while being detained, he is on his way to hospital, he is alive,” Estrosi told reporters. “Enough is enough,” Estrosi said. “It’s time now for France to exonerate itself from the laws of peace in order to definitively wipe out Islamo-fascism from our territory.” ... » Learn More about 3 dead as woman beheaded in knife attack at French church

The fight for a freer web continues
The social media platform Telegram has over 500 million users with over 55 million active every day. Unlike other platforms such as Twitter, YouTube, Facebook and others, you are free to express your opinion there without being cancelled, shadow banned or throttled in searches. There are other platforms also emerging to compete with the giants but there are problems. Bank and payment gateways are facing pressure to no longer support competitors to the giants. The slickness of the platforms is not quite there yet and others like Rumble still have more and longer ads than YouTube. That said I recently watched a longer clip on YouTube and faced 10 ad breaks averaging four minutes apart. Eventually the competitive platforms will grow as more and more opinions are suppressed by the giants. The previously cancelled Parler is back but some are questioning their longevity on a California-based platform. - I'm looking to put together a new computer, specifically for music production and ... » Learn More about The fight for a freer web continues

‘Golden Parade’ carries pharaohs to new home
CAIRO : A procession of floats carried the mummified remains of 22 pharaohs, including Egypt’s most powerful ancient queen, through Cairo Saturday evening, in an eye-catching parade to a new resting place. Under hefty security, the mummies were driven on floats seven kilometers across the capital from the iconic Egyptian Museum to the new National Museum of Egyptian Civilization. Dubbed the “Pharaohs’ Golden Parade,” the 18 kings and four queens travelled in order, oldest first, each aboard a separate vehicle decorated in ancient Egyptian style. Both pedestrians and vehicles were barred from Tahrir Square, site of the current museum, and other sections of the route. Images of the slick parade and an equally carefully choreographed opening ceremony were broadcast live on state television, to rousing music. The mummies entered the grounds of the new museum to a 21-gun salute, after a slightly shorter than expected journey time of around half an hour. “This grandiose ... » Learn More about ‘Golden Parade’ carries pharaohs to new home
Netflix hit ‘The Crown’ blasted for anti-Charles bias
“The Crown” season three with Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II. Image: courtesy of Netflix via AFP Relaxnews The fourth season of Netflix hit “The Crown” has stirred controversy in Britain, where its treatment of the heir to the throne, Prince Charles, has been criticized for taking too much artistic license. The series about the long reign of Queen Elizabeth II has turned its focus in recent episodes to the doomed marriage between Charles and his first wife, the late Princess Diana. In the most recent season, British actress Emma Corrin portrays the princess from her first meeting with Charles as the young Lady Diana Spencer in 1977. As the show develops, she is forced to contend with an increasingly unhappy marriage and her husband’s infidelity with his now wife Camilla Parker-Bowles. But despite the series’ huge popularity, show creator Peter Morgan has been accused of inventing storylines without warning viewers that they are in fact fiction. This facet of “The ... » Learn More about Netflix hit ‘The Crown’ blasted for anti-Charles bias
