Thane: The Thane city police on Wednesday issued an advisory urging people to be cautious while shopping online on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram. Cops stated that several retail pages have cropped up on both of these social media sites, and among other products, some of them also sell mobile phones, laptops, cameras and watches. These pages generally tend to offer allegedly branded items at a much lower cost, thus attracting potential buyers towards them. They then provide the customers with a payment link or ask them to pay the discounted price via UPI platforms such as GooglePay and PhonePe, and successfully dupe them of huge amounts of money.
