New Delhi: In a bid to fill the vacant seats in trains and meet the challenges posed by the roadways and airways, the Indian Railways has decided to give discount of up to 25 per cent to passengers on ticket fares. According to the Railways, the decision will be applicable in air-conditioned executive class and chair cars of trains like Shatabdi Express, Gatiman Express, Tejas Express, Double Decker and Intercity Express. "A decision on giving discount of passenger fare was taken today (Tuesday) and a circular has been issued to all the zonal managers," a senior Railway Ministry official told IANS. He said, under this rule passengers will be given up to 25 per cent discount on the base fare in selected trains with less than 50 per cent occupancy. New Delhi: In order to boost the earnings of Indian Railways, the government is mulling implementing a 'give it up' scheme where it will ask passengers to sacrifice the subsidy given to them on train ticket bookings. The Piyush Goyal-led Ministry is currently working on a plan that would allow passengers to voluntarily give up, either a part or the entire subsidy component given to them on their train tickets. A senior Railway Ministry official aware of the development told news agency IANS: "The railways has submitted a 100-day plan to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) to increase the earnings." The move comes in the wake of Railways commitment to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) to launch the initiative within first 100 days of the second term of Modi government. Maria Cristina, 73, from Reno, Nevada, who became hooked on fitness after working out with a personal trainer for the first time when she was 69, has become a bikini body champion. She was a college president in both Nevada and California for two decades, and started working out only after her retirement. Cristina admits that she grew "heavier, slower and more stressed" after turning 50, as her career took precedence over her health and well-being. She was determined to get into shape after retiring and booked her first session with a personal trainer at age 69, reported Daily Mail. She began working out with her trainer three times a week, in addition to doing 45 minutes to one hour of cardio each morning. India’s longest-serving woman prisoner, Nalini Sriharan, 52, came out on parole for 30 days from Vellore Central Prison on Thursday morning. This is the first time that Nalini has come out of prison on an ordinary parole since her arrest in June 1991, 28 years ago. Brief emergency paroles granted to her in the past have lasted only a few hours — once for her brother’s wedding, and on another occasion after her father’s death in 2016. Nalini was granted parole after her petition, in which she said she had to make arrangements for the wedding of her daughter, was accepted by the Madras High Court. Nalini’s daughter Harithra, a medical practitioner, lives in London.
