Plan to boost police visibility in universities opposed Edu Punay (The Philippine Star) - August 18, 2019 - 12:00am MANILA, Philippines — An administration lawmaker yesterday opposed the plan of the Philippine National Police (PNP) to increase police visibility in universities and colleges. Rizal Rep. Fidel Nograles, vice chairman of the House justice committee, said such plan is unwarranted and inconsistent with the purpose of higher learning institutions. “The main mandate of the PNP is to combat and prevent crime. As far as I know, no crimes are committed when students join left-leaning organizations in universities and colleges, so long as they do not take arms against the government,” Nograles said. Nograles said universities and colleges “should remain venues for discussion and debate, where students can explore different ideologies and different perspectives about society.” … [Read more...] about Plan to boost police visibility in universities opposed

11 chefs and 11 caterers: Whew! wow! Dani Avanzado (The Philippine Star) - August 8, 2019 - 12:00am MANILA, Philippines — Food is at the center of many, if not most, celebrations; the very act of creating it up to consuming it compels people to come together. Tropical Rendezvous Uni Txangurro This is exactly what The Blue Leaf did when they partnered with Our Awesome Planet — 11 chefs and 11 local caterers collaborated to create a five-course menu each. The dishes were introduced during a grand dinner last July 27, where guests got to taste each collaboration’s creations (and yes, that’s 55 dishes in total). Chef Natalia Moran x Passion Cooks You’d expect grand events to be stuffy, sit down affairs, but it wasn’t at all. The setup was similar to a buffet-style dinner, where each collaboration had a station to themselves. Guests would come up to the table, grab a dish; there were also … [Read more...] about 11 chefs and 11 caterers: Whew! wow!
I live in classic, old Manila, in the Sta. Cruz area, home to medical supplies stores. It’s not exactly a neighborhood where pubs or bars and cafes would be open in case you want a drink, or a place to relax after work. The 2019 national budget allots P23.2 billion for the stipend that will be distributed by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), which also gets to qualify beneficiaries, Francisco Datol of party-list group Senior Citizen said. “The mandate of the budget law is for the DSWD to give the P500 monthly stipend directly to each senior citizen-beneficiary or through money remittance centers accredited by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas,” he said.
