Europa League: Manchester United thrash AZ Alkmaar
Stockholm: Teenage striker Mason Greenwood scored twice as Manchester United hammered AZ Alkmaar 4-0 and Enzo Crivelli scored a last-gasp winner to put Istanbul Basaksehir through to the last 32 as the Europa League group stage concluded on Thursday. On a good night for English clubs, Wolverhampton Wanderers also thrashed Besiktas 4-0 in Group K, while Arsenal came from two goals down to draw 2-2 away to Standard Liege and finish first in their pool ahead of Eintracht Frankfurt. After a goalless first half Manchester United turned on the style, opening the scoring with a brilliantly-worked goal from Ashley Young before Greenwood netted either side of a Juan Mata penalty. The win secured Group L victory for the Reds, and despite the defeat their Dutch opponents have also made it through after finishing second, one point ahead of Partizan Belgrade who beat FC Astana 4-1. The upset of the night came in Group J as Crivelli scored a 90th-minute winner against Borussia Moenchengladbach to … [Read more...] about Europa League: Manchester United thrash AZ Alkmaar

Live: Day two of the Presidents Cup from Royal Melbourne Golf Club
Adam Scott and Louis Oosthuizen defeated the American pairing of Matt Kuchar and Dustin Johnson three and two (three holes ahead with two holes to play) to give the International team a healthy 5-1 lead overall before life got worse for the US. Marc Leishman and Abraham Ancer piled on the pain by defeating Patrick Reed and Webb Simpson three and two to make it 6-1 in the Internationals’ favour. However Patrick Cantlay’s huge put and Tiger Wood’s expertise reduced the deficit, and the Internationals lead 6.5-3.5. Reed was copping plenty of stick from the crowd after his cheating controversy at last week’s Hero World Challenge and while he played up to the fans, he wasn’t smiling at the end result. At one stage Reed put his hand to his ear after draining a putt, claiming he couldn’t hear the hecklers, then mimicked using his putter as a shovel, making light of a two-shot penalty he received in the Bahamas for clearing sand in the bunker to improve his … [Read more...] about Live: Day two of the Presidents Cup from Royal Melbourne Golf Club
