Insurance Regulatory & Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has announced new guidelines for standard health insurance product by relaxing the norms on the sum insured for the Arogya Sanjeevani Policy. Under previous guidelines general and health insurers could offer policies for sum insured between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 5 lakh. Under the revised guidelines the limit has been done away with. IRDAI said in a circular, “To further facilitate the general public, insurers are hereby allowed to offer minimum sum insured less than Rs.1,00,000/- and maximum sum insured greater than Rs.5,00,000/- subject to the underwriting policy of the Insurers.The Sum insured options shall be offered in the multiples of Rs. 50,000/-(fifty thousand) only.”Commenting on the revised guidelines, Tapan Singhel, MD & CEO, Bajaj Allianz General Insurance said, “The modification in ‘Arogya Sanjeevani Policy’ with regards to the sum insured is certainly a welcome move.
