The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to examine an appeal filed by DMK MP Kanimozhi against a Madras High Court decision to look into a petition challenging her election as the Parliamentarian from the Thoothukudi constituency in 2019.The Bench led by Chief Justice of India Sharad A. Bobde, however, refused her request to stay the High Court proceedings. The Bench issued notice to A. Santhana Kumar, who had filed the election petition against Ms. Kanimozhi.In her appeal, Ms. Kanimozhi, represented by senior advocate A.M. Singhvi, P. Wilson and Joseph Aristotle, said the High Court had erroneously banked on a petition which was, at best, “vague and without material facts”.The High Court had proceeded on the notion that Ms. Kanimozhi had refused to disclose the PAN of her spouse. Hyderabad vet rape, murder case: SIT begins probe into alleged encounter
HYDERABAD: The special investigation team (SIT), set up by the Telangana government to probe the killing of four accused in the rape and murder of a veterinarian in "retaliatory" firing by police, on Monday got down to business, even as the state high court directed authorities to preserve their bodies till December 13. "SIT has taken up the investigation," a senior police official told PTI. The SIT, headed by Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh M Bhagwat,should immediately take over investigation into the case and all other related cases registered in the state as per Supreme Court guidelines, a Government Order issued on Sunday has said. The Terms of Reference (ToR) of the SIT include, investigating the cause and circumstances leading to the death of the four persons, and completing investigation and submitting a report before a competent court of law, it said. The Christian footballer is suing Rugby Australia and the NSW Waratahs for $10 million in damages, including a $5.7 million payout for the remainder of his contract. Folau, who will miss the Rugby World Cup in September, was sacked for breaching his employers’ code of conduct when he shared a controversial Instagram post in April. In a 26-page statement of claim lodged with the Federal Circuit Court this week, Folau says the decision to sack him is unenforceable because it places an unreasonable limit on his ability to play. “Mr Folau can no longer play rugby union at an international level (because he is only eligible to play for the Wallabies) or for an Australian team in the Super Rugby competition and is therefore an unreasonable restraint of trade, contrary to public policy and void,” the document says. The Madras High Court on Monday directed film director Gowtham Vasudeva Menon to file his counter affidavit by Wednesday to a plea by former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s niece J. Deepa to restrain him from releasing a web series titled Queen.Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy issued the direction after it was brought to his notice by senior counsel Satish Parasaran that the web series, based on the life of Jayalalithaa and portrayed by actor Ramya Krishnan, was all set to release on Saturday.Ms. Deepa had filed a civil suit to injunct the release of web series as well as a biopic titled Thailaivi directed by A.L.
