Water pollution situation is grim in the country, the National Green Tribunal said Friday and directed 100 per cent treatment of sewage entering the rivers across the country by March 31 next year. The NGT warned that if this is not done, the local bodies and concerned departments of the states and Union Territories (UTs) will be liable to pay compensation of Rs 5 lakh a month per drain in the case of river Ganga and Rs 5 lakh for default in commencement of setting up of sewage treatment plant. While directing that an institutional mechanism be evolved for ensuring compliance of its directions, the NGT asked the chief secretaries of all the states and UTs to monitor the progress of the work, and at national level by the Secretary, Ministry of Jal Shakti with the assistance of National Mission for Clean Ganga and Central Pollution Control Board. TIRUCHI The Department of Paediatric Surgery, Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH) has performed 102 complicated procedures in the last six months under the Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme(CMCHIS). The hospital was able to purchase a laparoscope, colonoscope, cystoscope and tracheoscope among several other instruments with funding from the CMCHIS fund, according to K. Vanitha, Dean, MGMGH here on Friday.Dr. Vanitha said the hospital doctors had operated upon 102 children with congenital birth defects. “These infants were operated upon soon after birth, most of them within two months. WASHINGTON: The US wants India to ensure that its data localisation plan does not "stymie growth” and American financial transaction companies are treated "fairly", Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin has said. Mnuchin also insisted that America has no problem if countries want to have local data for regulatory purposes as long as they do not eliminate it outside the country. Data localisation is the practice of physically storing data on servers located within a country's territory. The Reserve Bank of India had, in April last year, asked payment firms to ensure their data were stored exclusively on local servers, setting a tight six-month deadline for compliance. US firms like Google, Mastercard, Visa and Amazon have lobbied against data localisation rules around the world including India, stressing that it would make their operations more complicated and costly.
